Preview By Browser is VERY LOUD
Is there a way of turning down the volume when previewing audio via the browser? Sometimes I'm in such a rush I forget what’s about to come and BANG, I'm blown off my chair by the sheer air movement from my monitors Also why is the content (especially the MIDI loops) that comes with Sonar so much louder than MIDI I input. For example If i recreate a MIDI sequence for SD3 it always much quieter than loops from the SD3 content folder. If I import MIDI loops they're always much louder even though they have the same velocities and trigger the same synth? Any ideas appreciated.

click the down arrow next to Media and change the audio preview bus. It may be routed to your soundcards main outs which is why its so loud.

Stick a limiter on whatever bus you're using to preview

of course, it'd be nice if they'd just put in a VOLUME CONTROL on the preview browser.... but of course, like many things in sonar, you have to use a workaround... sorry if i sound a bit bitter, but this is something that i've been waiting for for the last 10 versions, so i feel quite justified in feeling frustrated

All of my project templates have a dedicated buss named "Sample Preview." No limiter on it - I just keep it turned down to -10dB as a default setting. Yes, it's a workaround, but even if we had an output level for the samples, I'd use this approach because it's just more intuitive and efficient for me to ride the fader when seeing how a sample fits into a mix.

...also, one other advantage to my approach is that it's very easy preview a sample/loops with effects by just dropping some effects on the FX bin or sending it to a reverb or delay buss. But, I agree that it's silly that a simple volume level for the sample preview hasn't been implemented yet.

Agreed we have a metronome bus by default , so why isn't there a dedicate bus routed to the media browser preview.. Excellent point, I think they forgot about it.. Also there's a bug when routing a bus to the media browser, sometimes it has no affect until you save and restart the project. sometimes is routes , sometimes not..

Thanks all. Been pulling my hair out on this one, must have overlooked this in the manual / help guide. I'll be adding a preview bus to my template this evening.
