Session Drummer 2 compatible with HS4?
Does session drummer 2 work with HS4? Issues? What about session drummer 2 verses studio instruments in terms of ease of use etc.? Thanks. I would have upgraded before now but some versions seemed stripped down and I would need to upgrade my computer for the other ones. I am wanting to try to add drum tracks to existing songs and to just build new drum tracks from scratch. I am working with audio loops and can do some things but cannot seem to make the drums timing sound right unless I start with a drum track. Trying to add after I have laid down some guitar never works out, sometimes because I am playing in odd time signatures and all the loops are probably 4/4.

Session Drummer 2 will work fine with SHS4, you'll just have to scan it in as a VST just like any other using the VST Adapter. Session Drummer 2 vs Studio Instruments - they're both about the same level of flexibility and sound, but they have different strengths when it comes to the kit features, sounds and MIDI loops available, but neither one are "on par" with EZ drummer which I highly recommend if you can affor it. Session Drummer 2 is worth $10! and I like it a little better than SI Drums, but not by much. EZD is much better if you can afford it.

On the SHS 4 support page there's a link to the VST adapter update which implies that you need the adapter to run VSTs in SHS 4. Session Drummer 2 is a VSTi (unless there is also a DX version). Do you already have the adapter?

The main advantage of SD2 over SI-Drums is that SI-Drums is limited to 1 stereo/2 mono outputs and SD2 can have 8 stereo/16 mono outputs.

Good info - I have only "played" with either of them since I've had EZD longer than either existed.

Seems like everytime I try something new it takes about three days to figure out that I am missing a driver or something like that. And I thought playing was the hard part....

The VST adapter was included with SHS4. You'll find it as a separate program in your Cakewalk Program Files folder. You can open it from Windows Explorer or Programs from the Start menu. It's virtually identical to the VST adapter in SHS6, just not integrated into the program. On SD2 vs Studio Instruments: Ease of use is about the same. SI Drums is a locked set, in that the patterns and sounds are what comes with it. There are third party patterns(loops) available for SD2, and you can substitute other sounds for individual drums in SD2. SD2 has much better velocity layering, which is particularly noticeable if you trigger your drums via live input from a controller. SD2 has a larger variety of stock patterns. The 8 outputs allow for control over the individual drums, such as unique reverb or compression. SD2 is a steal at $10, but I thought the original $80 asking price was a bit rich. I like SD2, and have used it on most of the songs on my Soundclick page,
My Soundclick Page SONAR Professional, X3eStudio,W7 64bit, AMD Athlon IIx4 2.8Ghz, 4GB RAM, 64bit, AKAI EIE Pro, Nektar Impact LX61,Alesis DM6,Alesis ControlPad,Yamaha MG10/2,Alesis M1Mk2 monitors,Samson Servo300,assorted guitars,Lava Lamp Shimozu-Kushiari or Bob

right - the VST adapter was included with SHS4 - that was the first cakewalk program I started with. Bob - good review of the two programs!
