Pro Channel Read Automation Bug.

Im sure this has been seen before.. sometimes while playing back If I dropped the kick for a few bars and bring it back in . And its missing for a bar. I rewind the transport and bang it plays perfect, also if I export it's there no problems.
I have adjusted my playback buffer no difference . Im thinking one of two things, Audio driver issue or Bug .
I am using Sonar X1 64.

Issues with MIDI notes not playing at times (either virtual instruments or external MIDI instruments) has been a hot topic here a few times.  You may want to check this out:

A whole bar it drops?  Then it comes back in on it's own -- or you HAVE to rewind to get it to play John?

And, what audio device is this?  Asio/WDM?   Does this happen with any kick or a specific plugin / sampler / etc?

I'm not 64 bitten yet, but it does sound like and audio driver issue on the surface.

The following Knowledge Base article might be a bit of a long shot regarding your midi problem, but i've resolved some MIDI wonkiness of my own by applying this fix:

I had some weird MIDI stuff going on a few years ago.. there is a MIDI buffer setting under preferences, I had to raise the value in order for the dropped out MIDI notes to play.

My problem was with a piano track that would only play SOME of the piano part.

Check it out.. simple fix if it works for you.

most of the times just the first kick,  ,BTW It's an audio kick , I bounced it down it not midi, some more weirdness is I just did an export and the first 2 mins of the kick didn't play at all and out of the blue somewhere around 3 mins in the kick came back in.. So I was wrong in my post above as I said the track exported correct,
.. Now I'm also thinking automation might not be playing correct maybe some sort of bug perhaps.
To be more clearly , The kick is an Audio kick, I have it sidechained with my bass using the sonitus, I have it eq'ed with the pro channel. and I have turnado efx on it with automation.

I need to investigate it more.. But I have a Strong feeling its the tascam fw 1884's, I know Im having minor problems where sometimes it takes forever to shutdown my computer with the tascam hooked up. without it hooked up shutdown is instant on my ssd .. To Note sonar closes the tascam as it should a few seconds after i close the program. So Im thinking Its a driver issue with the tascam...

Unfortunately, John said he already checked the MIDI Prepare Buffer (that's the setting I suspect you mean).

Well John, the more details you provide, as above, the more I think it's not an audio driver issue but a data issue.    Automation, side-chaining, etc, all can be suspect at this point.   Also try NOT using 64 DP processing IF you are.

You could also try turning off ALL FX (I forget the 'new' keybinding for that) and see if that causes a change / fixes the playback.  If it does, it most likely is either a plugin issue or a setting/routing issue with the plugins (FX) somewhere in the chain.

You're right that when a computer takes a long time to shut down, it does suggest a driver communication problem, but what triggers that might be unrelated to the driver itself (ex:  memory corruption).

After a little investigation ,This is what I've come up with . Ok at the start of the track , where talking about the kick track, I had the pro channel compressor on for only the first 8 bars to tame a filter effect which automated out after 8 bars , so I automated the on off button to off on the Pro channel compressor after 8 bars , what seems to be happening is the automation of the on off dose noting until I move forward into the track by clicking forward in the time line during playing Only then can I see the light disappear in the PC as the compressor is deactivated , and now the kick sounds as it should..
From what I gathered it seems the automation read gets passed by until the track gets forwarded passed that automation point , but not during a complete play you need that break in time for the automation to respond . weird .. I'm going to use the sonitus Compressor see if I can make it work..

There was an issue with automating on/off buttons in ProChannel early on. IIRC, the problem was that the effect would not be audibly enabled though the power indicator would light up when automation enabled it. Possibly they did not get the fix 100% right. If you can reproduce in another project you should file a Problem Report.

I can't help myself... humor me:

Under preferences, MIDI... PLAYBACK.... BUFFER SETTING....

    What setting do you have?

I needed to raise mine all the way to 1024 ms to fix my missing MIDI NOTE problem.

You probably already did this but check.

He already clarified it's an audio kick. Already bounced down, and apparently working fine before FX and automation were added. It would be easy enough to look for the transient hit in the waveform to verify it's there.

    Brundlefly....

OH.. so, its an audio track that stops playing mid way through, or an audio track bounced down from a VST and the bounce down is missing the note?

If the kick was always AUDIO, I apologize for not understanding the problem.

Yeah I figured out my problem and fixed it , It was the pro Channel and an automation read issue. I deleted using the Pro Channel and it works/sounds perfect. Seems there's a bug, I have sent over a file for Cw to check out.. I will change the heading of this post ,, Thank you all for your help..
