Audio issues
OK, so this is lame...I don't really know where else to post this...and most everyone is here anyway. I'm trying to learn a song, so have it playing in WMP and am comparing it to my playing in Sonar. But every time I switch from WMP to Sonar I have to hit Options > Audio > OK for it to be in the right key. (it's a few notes too high otherwise.) Yes...I can quickly hit Alt O, U, enter, but honestly, this is getting old. Got any ideas for a fix? (it seems to do this when switching between programs and a few other odd times...fortunately not as often as it is in this situation.)

No, on my DAW (desktop). And no, the MIA MIDI.

it sounds like you might be using 48k sampling rate in sonar instead of 44.1k. that's all I can think of at this time of night when it's time for bed...

Sorry for these late night questions. :( No, it looks like it's 44.1k. But thanks!

Thanks Reece. Yes, that's checked too. Herb, the original and my version ARE in the same key. But when I switch from WMP back to Sonar, Sonar speeds up and goes up a few notes. But if I can't get this figured out before the end of this song (a couple more hours at the rate I'm going), I just might try that. lol

maybe WMP is using 48k then. check in your CONTROL PANEL>SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES and see what sampling rate the soundcard is set to use there.

Thanks Reece. I'll try that. One problem is, that this sometimes happens even while I'm just in Sonar. I'm not sure exactly why and when, but I'm wondering if it's when I switch between audio and midi? Like when someone is recording vocals?

have you tried importing it into a track in Sonar in the same project to see if that solves the problem? I would think that would be easier too. Line it up and you can "play along" or mute/solo as needed. That eliminates the differences inherent in the two different players.

That's what I wanted to do, Herb, but I bought the thing from iTunes so it's not an mp3. It's an m4a, and Sonar won't accept it. :( Maybe I could find it somewhere else as an mp3. It would certainly be worth the 99 cents!

get a media converter. There are some on the net. Most are not free but some run in full mode for 10 days. I found a free site online that allowed instant conversion of a video file from MOV to AVI so I could inport it into Cake. Google search and you will find something that is useful to convert it. ALSO.... I think you can go into your settings on itunes and change the default download format from it's proprietary format to the more accessible mp3. That way future DL's are in mp3 to start. You might also be able to burn it to a CD.... and then convert that back to MP3 directly with your existing software. It's not likely to be very high quality but it will still allow you to hear it, to learn it. I heard someone else say that the conversion to WAV and back to mp3 also strips the embedded anti-piracy stuff.

Found a free one and got it done. Thanks, Herb! I'd still like to figure out that issue, but at least it's a lesser issue now. :)

If you have iTunes you can convert it into an .mp3 with that (I do this all the time).
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!
