Another Man (rock-a-billy)

A new original "rock-a-billy" tune featuring songwriter, Steve McMahan on lead vocals, Dave Adkins on lead guitar & piano, Tony Staffiero on Alto Sax, and me on the rest...

I was trying to capture that ol' Sun Records vibe... not so much the sound, as the overall feel, in a more modern context...
I'd love to hear any crits...  Thanks...

Hot Dog --- the Sun sound for the 21st century!!!   I think you've got it.  Actually, I kind of pick up a Ronnie Hawkins feel to this number and for me that's good.  The vocalist has a phrasing that sounds a bit like Mr. Hawkins, and like all good old time R 'n R and R'billy it has that driving beat pushing it along.
Great number, great playing by all, and nice sound.

    Hey Frank
SOLID piece and performance.  The mix on my end is super clean. I think the verbs used gave it that SUN STUDIO sound but if your going for the older feel its to crisp. Maybe a touch of the tape saturation would dirty her up a smidge. All in all its a killer tune/mix.  KUDOS!

Yeah, it sounds like you pretty much got it, Frank, the verb really does it!  Great stuff. Loved the sax and the piano and the overall vibe!

Good work, you definitely captured the vibe.   This song could have been on the Blues Brothers soundtrack;)   Love your guitar tone, good vocals, killer sax solo.

Neat tune, and I like the way he sang it.  The track, of course, was great as always.  I think you captured a lot of that feel, including the Floyd Cramerish piano fills.

I don't know if this is a mix crit, or maybe just a prefernce kinda' thing, but I would have liked the piano and one guitar panned a little less, and closer to center.  Could just be a taste thing.

Overall though, it was great... my foot started goin' in the first measure and didn't stop.

BTW, you are not another man, you are THE MAN.

BTW, can  borrow your guitar tech (wink wink)?

The mix is "perfect". The sound of each instrument is "perfect." The performances are "perfect." You raise the bar so high each time you put something out, it's somewhat disheartening for us mere mortals... :-( Bravo.

Great tune.  Outstanding blues performances as usual.  Great piano riffs and guitar riffs to compliment the cool vox.  Nice sax solo.

Well, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Annapolis, bruised and broken from existing  problems and new ones caused by a bad fall. "  I've fallen and I can't get up." So, this GREAT tune got me moving.  Thanks.  It is all up to your standards, which are very high!  Loved it.  Great sound.

There's a lot of people with a lot of talent on this forum. Many "premier" musicians on their instruments? i..e, Scotty is a genius... Danny on that guitar work on the latest colab he participated on? "consummate" musicians...  People have called me a singer? :-) And I'm not bad? But I don't rank my talent among those listed here...

But over-all? Tanton exhibits such "consistent" high quality in the performances of the people he brings together, combined with his skills to produce and record it all. Again, if I had to pick a winner? And it is not easy to do in this crowd... It would be Frank. And "that" is high praise... High praise indeed.

And somehow he does this while at the same time being a guy you'd like to have a beer with?

I say "Frank Tanton for President..." I would give to his campaign?

Great tune!  Everything sounded perfect and while I can't speak to the Sun Records vibe, I can say that I dig the sound it does have.  You guys really know how to put together a tune.

    Frank,

Stellar production as usual, great individual performances mixed with a clarity that makes me want to rush right out and buy the latest edition of " Tanton's Sonar Mixing and Production Principles ".   So, I've provided the title, just need you to write the book now :)  Seriously, I'm envious of the separation and balance you consistently get in your mixes.  Thanks for another great tune.

Was that song done in a high-school gymnasium? Was I suppose to chew gum and snap my fingers together? Well, at least I be-bopped around a little.

You have captured that sound! Sounded fine.

Humm........just had a high-school 45 year class reunion (something about Medicare). The Class President said to have a sense of humor. Another person said remember the day you fell out of the window? A test score was handed back to another person who hadn't studied for the test so he crumbled up the test paper and threw it out the window after having a "F---" written on the test paper. Then the teacher said if the test paper was not handed back in that a person would receive an "F" for the entire course. So Steve (who could fit through the window) the Class President said he get it back, and leaned out the window trying to reach and pick up the test paper for the other student. He leaned too far and fell out the window all the way.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
let the computer (synth) play it. (silly song anyway)
