Is there an easier way to set velocity?
I'm using Superior Drummer 2 and I'm trying to find an easy solution to making a hi-hat sound more 'human', so instead of individually adjusting the velocity on each hit, I'm wondering if there is any way to set it to randomize between certain values? Thanks!

Right, but then it would apply to the entire track, which would be no good. This is useful if I have the hi-hat set to a different track. Still useful! Thanks.

You could copy the hi-hat notes from the midi drum track and delete them from the original drum midi but still reroute the new hi-hat midi to the superior drums. Then apply the FX as Scott mentioned but it will only affect the hi-hats.

Aren't the midi plug-ins also available for offline processing when you right-click in the piano roll? I haven't used Sonar in a long while but I seem to recall those tools were there. It would then just be a matter of selecting only the hi-hats and applying the midi fx offline.

I'm certain i've seen a CAL or two that will do just what you ask -- i.e. take a series of uniform midi values and randomize them between a low and high value. (If you select HH midi notes alone, say, via lassoing in the PRV, the CAL will be applied only to these selected notes.) I can't honestly remember whether the CAL(s) i'm talking about came with Sonar X1, or whether i found them online -- there's a bunch of CALs available for download at various websites. I didn't keep the URLs, but i remember that i found these websites via a Google search. Regards Glenn

You can always play the hats on your keyboard - instant, real humanization. Works great. RB

This is another reason I split drum MIDI onto separate tracks.

Just select the hithats notes, then apply the MIDi fx to randomize
