Record automation data with A300 pro in SonarX1

I just bought an A300 pro and, even if I like the device very much, the documentation is horrendous.
I had to google like every 5 minutes because the use of ACT with the A300 pro isn't explained...at all.
Got this thing working now, for the most part.
Now what I want to do is to record some automation on a Kontakt 4 track.
I control the cut off via host automation (no idea how midi automation works with this one as I somehow can't change the midi CCs in the xact editor and it always jumps automatically to the pan of the tracks as soon as I leave the softsynth and want to record. So I use "exclude rotaries R1-R8 from ACT in current bank" and drag and drop the #000 host parameter onto the cutoff). This works fine but I have no idea how I can record my movements.
I know how to record MIDI automation but as I said I have no clue how I can implement this on the A300 pro using ACT.
I think it is a big letdown to have this device more or less made straight for Sonar and there is absolutely no documentation about how to actually control it with ACT.
Maybe someone could help me out on this one. Google doesn't do the trick anymore :/

EDIT:
As it seems I can draw envelopes on the RPN channel I use for controling the cutoff (in my case 0).
Is Sonar ignoring RPN signals when recording automation? Would be strange as I can draw a working envelope.

I wrote a tutorial some time ago having experienced a lot of frustration getting my A-Pro set up.  Here it is ... hopefully it will help.

I know others seem to like ACT reasonable well, but I've pretty much decided I'll just stick with MIDI-learn for things I need to control from the A-Pro.

Thx. I've read the whole article and it helped me a lot to understand how ACT works and I really prefer working with ACT.
Still I can't find a way to record the knob movements in ACT mode...the joystick is transmitting its messages as it should so I really don't get why the knobs won't do the same.
The controler movement responds and I can hear the filter cutoff closing and opening but somehow I can't record the movement.
Allthough I am able to draw an automation envelope for its RPN channel and it works.
This is very frustrating indeed and makes the whole controller a bit pointless.
Still there has to be a way to record automation in real time. ><

I finally got this thing to work. It is extremely messy but this may be the only way.
For every future user with the same question I am explaining how it works.

First thing you want to do is going into the ACT Editor of the A300 Pro and uncheck (right clicking) "Exclude Rotaries R1-R8 from ACT in current Bank" if you want to record movement on the rotaries. Now they should change their color to blue.
Next you undock the Synth Browser. No there is an option to add controllers to your synth plug-ins. Click there.
Now its activated and you can turn the desired knob in your desired VSTi.
Click again on the add controllers button and you will get the message that new controllers have been added and you can see them showing up right underneath the plug in you selected.
Next right click on the just created controller and choose "write automation".
Now it will get a red circle on it indicating it is ready to record.
Now you are able to record your knob movements.

As I said it is pretty messy but I am happy to finally figured this thing out. ><
