Using Novation Remote SL with Sonar X1

I have Sonar 8.5 and the newer X1 installed. My Novation SL keyboard controller works perfectly with the 8.5, but when set up the same in X1 it does NOT work. There is NO problem with the software recognizing that the Novation SL is attached.  It lets me set it up as a control surface.  It lets me map the midi.  The controls on the keyboard will control X1 for the play, rewind, etc.  But it will NOT recognize any MIDI data for notes or other controller messages.  As I said, the Novation SL configured the exact same way works fine on Sonar 8.5.  But when I configure it the exact same way for X1, it does NOT work. 
 
Please help.
