"The New Dawn" - mixing thoughts
Hey, Chucking this here. Got some feedback from a colleague of mine that this needed more bass. I disagreed, but wanted to get some second opinions. So how's this soud? "The New Dawn" (opens up to SoundCloud)

Very good, indeed. But you planted a seed. Don't ever tell anyone what to look for because that's where they look. Very good as it is but I agree with your friend, more bottom.

maybe a little more thunder from the drums but I always say that...excellent piece, the ending seemed abrupt.

Nice sounding textures. I too agree it needs some more bottom end, but you have to be careful with that as you don't want it to be muddy.

Ok, I may not be listening under the best conditions so take this with a grain of salt but I keep hearing what sounds like clipping on the bass drum hits. Is that or something else clipping somewhere in the chain? Also found myself straining to hear the vocals. That's just human nature, so I'd make them a bit more prominent.

Sounds like a sound track to a movie.............. I agree about the bottom end. My sub didn't even know it was there. I think this would sound better with alot of low end. But what do I know............:( Tim

The bass drum is from an effected kit and it's quite heavily crushed so the clipping is actually a part of the effect in it.

Definitely more bass. The system I listen on usually tends to emphasize the bass-y side and I got virtually no bass off your song. Put that aside though and this thing is just majestic. It really jumps out at me and takes me somewhere. I was left wanting more though as I thought it could stand to be a little longer, maybe with an interlude. But that is just my own taste and you have a very nice tune as is. Put a little oomph in the bottom and it would really engulf a listener.

very cool. You could for example use the brass arrangement you already have, and double a line an octave down with some meaty trombones or something.. and then add a synth line underneath that again :)

I agree with Tony...majestic. Stunning. Yeah, lacks bass, but I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. Very grand--love it!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. This has been quite valuable for future mixing projects. Hopefully I'll get them balanced better.
