Will CW allow me to sell my unwrapped / un-registered X1 PE version?

I find my self in the need for some extra (excuse the pun) cake right now.

I was cleaning out my studio closet on Friday and came across 4 software programs that I would very much like to sell to help with my current plans to upgrade my new DAW. I know that NI will allow you to unregistar a program and then sell it that way so the next person can legally registar it and use it. But I am not sure about X1.

I bought Sonar X1 PE last year when it was released but I have never even unwrapped it. so it is still factory wrapped and never been registered. However cause I did buy it thru the CW Store the serial number is in my name.

Will CW Allow me to sell this unwrapped / unused product to some one else and then allow them to legally register it ?

I plan to put all 4 programs up on eBay and like I've stated before, the funds will help me with my DAW upgrade.

thank you for any help
Clifford
P.S. Had a brain fart and first posted this in the X1 forum but felt it would be a more appropriate place here, so I appoligize to anyone for any issue you have regaurding this. Sorry!

Generally AFIK, Cake products can't be re-sold, but in your case it may be different as it's not opened/registered.

You best bet may be to check with Cakewalk and directly get an official answer.

    Ps.
What are the other softwares you're selling?

Well I have a request into cake asking if this will be ok. If they do not answer I will call.....I am hoping it will be.....The main thisng for me is I only want to do the right thing and by that I mean if I do sell it I want to make sure the buyer can legally registar and authorize it....then it will be worth it for both of us....

the other three things I am selling are:
NI Guitar Rig 3 (stand alone)
    NI Kontakt 4 (stand alone)
NI Kore 2 ....the software edition...no controller.....for this you need to have Komplete 4 or 5 for this to integrate properly...I did not and ended up re buying the software stand alone version with the controller.....arrhhh..

Anyway.....all three are in mint condition.....are in the original boxes.....have all the original maunals.....and have their serial numbers inside the box.......

I just just need to unregistar them with NI so I can properly sell them....(which I plan to do in about one to two weeks)...

The reason I am selling them is because I have Komplete 7 and all of these are included so there is no reason to have duplicates......

As I've originally stated I will be using the money to help fund my new DAW...

Let me know if you are intrested.

    Thank you Clifford

thanks buddy....I appreciate that.....it is just one of them things...It's tough all over but I will survive....My main goal right now is that I want a DAW.....I've been saving for over a year now and had to take a couple of side tracks along the way but like they say....it only makes you stronger.......

At this point I figure I've taken enough side tracks on this project.....it's time to take care of getting this done.....and just selling off the extra stuff I do not think I need will only help me here.....

    so thanks big guy!

thanks for the info....and Yes I do have Kore 2 and know about the Machine deal...but I thank you for the info just the same.....and Yes I love Machine......I was thinking about how I could get it just before my old DAW took the lightning strike.....so now just getting a new DAW is first on the list.......

    a little history....

I first got the Kore 2 player and fooled with it for a couple of years and liked it .....so I thought I would buy the full version....

so I went on eBay and won a bid for the Kore 2 "software edition".....thinking that this would replace my free player I bought it.....well this did not work.....I tried to install it but it would not install...asked NI what was I doing wrong....they said that this software edition was only for users who had komplete 4 or 5 as a compliment / supplement .  well I did not have either and so this software just sat and collected dust...

but I scoured eBay again for several months and finally won a bid on a Kore 2 stand alone version with the controller.....which I love....

so now I have two versions.....I am going to keep the stand alone version but want to sell the software edition....

In June of 2010 I was able to snag a legal copy of Komplete 7 which I am happy with but now I do not need my old Guitar Rig 3, or my Kontakt 4 stand alone versions....and that is why I am selling them....

Now if I do have any money left over from the DAW Build I will see what I can do about getting Machine.....if not....then well oh well...better luck next time......However.....the offer is still good like you said untill December 2011 and that leaves a little bit of time for some creative thinking / planning....

    Thanks for the thoughs
    Peace
    Clifford

This confuses me.  I own Kore 2 Software edition (no hardware at all), and you don't need to own Komplete to use it.  You can load other vst instruments and effects and do all sorts of great routing in it.  It's exactly the same software as the one that comes with the hardware...but without the hardware.  I'm not aware of any other editions of it.  Very strange...perhaps the NI help guy was confused.

At any rate, I wish you the best in raising the funds.    I only brought this up because the Kore edition should be of value to those who don't own Komplete as well (so more potential customers!).

You know....I do realize that there has to be just a software edition as you say...and I am glad that you have one that you are happy with.....so I do not doubt you......so there must be so other kind of restriction on this edition I got..but that is what NI told me when I called ans asked why I could not install it on my system....

I just wish the seller was a little more up front about it.....but Hey...I guess it's my fault that I bought it....I should of known better....this is exactly the reason I want to state this up front so some one else does not end up with something they can not use....

but none the less....I at least ended up with a version I could use and that I love .....

I cannot and would not think of answering for Smokey on this ....

The Kore free player (as in the free player for guitar Rig, Reackor, etc) are limited players.....what the limitations are i do not remember......but I do know that there is a difference in the full version and the free player edition....

some of the limitations deal with some expansion packs will not work with the free players, and I believe that there is a limited amount of tweaking / programing you can do in the free players.....but again I am not sure what they are....

Having Kore 2 come to an end does not place any limitiations on it ......it is the expansion packs themselves that do this.

My suggestion at this point would be to watch eBay for people who will be dumping their systems now becuase of NI's direction. I would be willing to bet that you will be able to pick up some very good deals.....I do not regret buying mine there.......

NI is planning on supporting Kore 2 for a while longer.....I have read that they intend to push out two more updates and one of them include the ability to support 64 bit OP systems.....which is just fine with me.....and I think that they will still do eamil and phone support for a while as well.....not 100% sure but I would think so.......just cause they are dropping the line does not mean that everyone suddenly will forget everything if you know what I mean....

    I hope that helps some.

    Hi Mesh,

As Truckermusic noted above, there aren't any major issues with it.  They've committed to getting all of the internal engines up to date and add 64-bit support as they are planning two more updates for it.

As best I can tell, the Kore 2 hardware is just perfectly mapped for it and integrates closely with the software.  But you can set up your own mappings to whatever controller you have and it works great....probably not as well as their hardware, but it gets the job done.

    Here are some more thoughts....

    Some Pros:
--Kore 2 has a pretty good library that comes with it...about 5 GB, and a lot of it is quite usable (lots of decent sample)
--The routing inside Kore is unbelievably flexible.  Take your favorite monophonic synth and put it in two slots into Kore.  Voila...it's now your favorite 2-oscallator synth. You can have crazy effect chains...you can split the audio into different bands to treat separately.  I think Energy XT or something similar is the only thing that can give you such flexible routing.
--Comes with a number of audio and midi effects included.  Yes, I know Sonar comes with a bunch and these aren't top of the line...but they're good.  I find myself using them quite a bit...lots of tweaking you can do with them.
--If you've ever found yourself frustrated with Sonar's terrible midiplugin handling, then Kore fixes that problem.  Load the midi plugin into Kore just before the synth you want to control...and it'll work like a charm.
--The preset library function is nice.
--You can load your own vst effects and instruments.  You can then set up the most important parameters you want to control with the eight knobs...save the "sound"....and you can instantly recall that mapping simply by double clicking the name of the sound.  Note:  A guy named aMused has great templates for a number of the most popular synths.
--You can also have it scan and catalog your midi files.  It's great for midi drum files.
--Saving your own presets into the morph pad and then moving through them (using an external controller) is great.  You can record this automation in Sonar to capture it.

    Some Cons:
--The database handling is a bit finicky.  Some sounds get counted twice...and the only fix is to delete the database file and re-scan.  Not a problem, but it does take a little bit of time (and can be annoying).
--Since you can load vst's into it, it has to scan them like Sonar does.  You can have it do this once and not everytime you open it.  However, if a plugin in the future won't load into Kore, then the developer won't be able to figure out the problem because they'll be no demo version of Kore 2 to test with it.  This seems to me to be the biggest drawback to the future with Kore.  That being said, I currently can't think of any that I have that don't "pass" the scan...so it's more of a potential problem.
--If the plugin relies on the host for preset management (a lot of freeware does this), then there's no good way to select a preset.  There is a Midi effect that sends a program change message so if it accepts that, then you can cycle through the presets.  Otherwise, you're out of luck.

Overall, as you might can tell, I love it....and I was really disappointed (and surprised) to see that NI discontinued it.  However, it is a complex bit of software that always needed updating every single time one of their flagship products (like Kontakt) was  updated....AND it had to be able to load third party plugins.  So, I can see how development wise, it might be a time-sink.

I'm not sure if that answered your question(s).  Feel free to ask another if it didn't.

    Thanks

You know, it might have been a software version that was bundled with Komplete and couldn't be separated because of that (sort of like when you buy a crossgrade for a product and you can't sell the crossgraded product without selling the original one).  So, perhaps something like that was the case here.

At any rate, I don't think we've crossed paths on this board too often (I'm only occasionally around), but you seem like a really kind fella.  It's nice to meet you.  It's amazing how refreshing it can be to meet "nice folks" on the internet.

    ABSOLUTELY!!!!!  I agree..

But then 99.9% of the time I have met and interacted with a lot of very nice and gracious people on this board.....I have been humbled more than once by the time, effort and free advice given to others (including me) just so that some one else can learn and improve......

Just because of this I really do not frequent other boards...

Now it's not to say that this place does not have it's share of disagrements or differences between members because there is but I try very hard to stay out of that nonsense. It leads no where....

Any way, I am very impressed with your knowledge of Kore 2 and it would be a pleasure (mostly on my part) to converse with you sometime on just how to do some of what you speak of.....there is so much I do not know how to do in Kore and I would really love to learn more if you would be willing.....

JUst let me know if this would be ok and I will PM you my contact info.

If not I would understand that as well...

    Peace

I bought the Kore 2 tutorial from macprovideo - it was on sale (if you subscribe they have regular 50% sales) - and they also had a 3 day viewing for $1 sale too. It's the best one and covers it all. There are NI videos about Kore 2 as well floating around the interwebbythingy.

I know a lot don't like paying for videos (me too) when there is so much available but I recommend this one for Kore 2. It's a logical walkthrough.

Thanks a lot Smokey for the detailed reply.....I totally appreciate you taking the time and making it very clear. I didn't realize Kore2 is this powerful.  Now you've got me on the lookout to get KORE2!!
I'm surprised it only comes with 5GB's of sounds....(I just got Kontakt4 and it came with about 40GB's). I probably should just save up for Komplete and avoid all this.....but I want to build a 64 bit machine first to house all of this.

Again, I appreciate your advice and review.

Excellent......I do have a couple of tutorials from them However their player did not always work on my machine.....very frustrating......but I will give it another go.......Tutorials are like paying for instrument lessons...only better.....cause you get to review them again and again......

    thanks for the lead..
