Waves Chris Lord-Alge Signature bundle...$279
This is really a good price for this bundle. While I was skeptical of this "several fx in one gui" approach at first I was won over by first, The Tony Maserati Collection...which is very good, and then The Chris Lord-Alge Collection...which is absolutely wonderful! I love these plugs. Just a heads up. Check them out and see what you think. YMMV.

I might end up having to anyway - the two studios we're we'll be recording vocals and guests for the project are both Pro Tools based, and it'll probably just make the whole process a whole lot easier for me to handle and supervise it using PT, which means iLock anyway. So this would open the door for me to buy a few Waves plug-ins. Anyone using a hub for the iLock? My laptop only has 2 ports, one of which is for the audio interface, but I could use the other for a hub to share it between my midi keyboard ad the iLock.

Same here - well, not that I ever had a Studer but, reel to reel analog and board. Seems there was only so much you could do, the tape took care of the rest and at worst, you lived with it because, that's what music was. And you know what? I was working on a cover yesterday and was feeling more and more negative about my own mix, so I un-muted and solo'ed the original, a classic of the late 70's. And, you know, it sucked too. lol It made me realize once more how much they could sometime get away with back then and it'd be okay - we're still listening to those songs and buying the records.

Yeah, back then it was about the vibe.....I love technology because of the choices...I hate technology because there's too many choices...I just want to write and record and not have to constantly think and analyze....I have a Tascam 2488 and Roland VS1680 hard disk recorder sitting here collecting dust....I gotta tell ya, they were fun, sounded good, and were SIMPLE! but that's for a different thread... BTW: Thanks for the poster about the Waves discount sites...wish I would have known about plugin discounts before I pulled the trigger on Melodyne this week, lol

I agree...the WAVES installer is very un-intuitive. Not sure about demos BUT I've learned the hard way that after you download the WOLI Version 8 installer and run it you have to select (by clicking in the check boxes) ALL your current version 8 WAVES programs (but NOT your version 7 or below stuff) as well as any new WAVES programs (i.e. your demo) that you've purchased and want to install. At least this is the only thing that has worked for me. Then...remember to reboot your machine before running X1 or the new plugs. HTH.

Which leaves me wondering, since, against all odds, this "presets" thing seems to work, how well would the EZ Mix do... Of course there's much less to tweak, but, in theory, it could still be better than I'd first thought.

I'm working on something now where in only the first 2 bars of the vocal, there's a sibilance issue with the female vocal (I did this tune years ago when the best mike I had was a TLM103)...the attitude was so good in the song, that I don't want to recut the entire vocal

Gaffpro I'll look into EZ mix, although I think I may already have it (seems like I have everything Toontrack at this point, lol) I've downloaded the demo. Of course, one can see it as a quick fix, but I for one tend to look at it as a learning/testing tool. It's one thing to read articles and watch tutorials, but it's sometimes harder to translate that knowledge in your own mixes. EZ Mix allows you to try and find what works directly in your own mix - solo'ed and in context. Of course you can leave it at that, but for me, I think it's more like a bunch of suggestions: this is the type of sound that works in your mix, now grab a compressor and an EQ and work to get that type of sound, not necessarily duplicating it nut more like following in that particular direction and bringing it to the next level. In spite of all my apprehensions, I like it. :)
