MIDI Editing Notes & Snapping
Hello folks,
This would be my first post here, I'm pretty much a brand new user to DAW's (Some brief Cubase 4 LE experience besides this), and I'm trying to get stuck in with my hobby of music composition and production.
It's all going reasonably well so far, X1 Producer is installed along with the other 2 of 3 Discs installed (So Dimension/SD3 and stuff are up and running), and I've been toying all day with it with some progress. I'm managing well with the Session Drummer plus step sequencer, but when it comes to writing Guitar notes and editing them, it's unusually difficult.
The Staff view isn't very kind to work with. I guess I'm too used to the options nicely displayed in software like Noteworthy Composer for adjusting note length, inputting triplets and so forth.
The Piano Roll is seeming the better bet, but although I've turned Magnetism "Off", regardless of the resolution I set (4th/8th size grid) the notes insist on snapping at like 32nd size, so I can't easily line them up.
I'm using a Yamaha MM6 keyboard to input the notes (because drawing them seems a little "icky" too), and using the Quantize Cakewalk Process helps refine them, but I just can't position them how I want.
Any suggestions or fixes?
I don't see how you can really use the Step Sequencer with a Guitar. In fact, writing for the Piano and Orchestral Instruments is going to be a pain if this doesn't get any easier O_O I guess the real answer is to become more proficient on the Piano itself to "play it into Sonar", but I don't recall having this much trouble in the tacky Cubase edition I used to have.
Loving X1 Producer otherwise, I can see the possibilities are endless :P Excellent level of manipulation available. ~ Lloyd
Edit: Oh jesus christ, maybe it's FireFox, but I input paragraphs and it's completely merged them. I will fix this message via Internet Explorer to see if it helps. Oh my GOD this Forum man, I have a scrolling window, in a scrolling window, in a scrolling window, this is just a bit frustrating. Paragraphs inserted, hopefully the problem is now fixed ¬_¬
Solution: Never mind, I managed to solve the problem. Not only did I just discover the Horizontal zoom tool (only originally saw the Vertical), I have discovered I need Magnetism on Medium/High. I swear I read in some other threads through searches it needed to be turned off since it's apparent meaning was "inverted" to what it suggested. But alas, the notes are snapping across the grid nicely! Sorry to bother you with this thread, heh :P
