upgrade from MC4/5
X1e might change everything but it isn't changing the DSL internet speed. And I used to think my DSL was fast..... It has begun..... looks to be an all day (possibly longer) job. There are a number of files and manuals and such to DL.... started with X1 part 1.... and it says 4 hours 57 minutes remaining.... (as of now) 8 files total. Better fix another pot of coffee.... I can go and do some service calls and come back and still have time to ...... hey...I can work on some music in my DAW! I'll keep you posted.

yep - the download of SX1P was huge. And I had problems with it because I tried to download it on an external USB hard drive. it took much longer that way and even after downloading it 3 times, IIRC, each time there was something corrupted in the download and it wouldn't work. I downloaded it to my internal SATA drive and it went MUCH faster and no corrupted files in the download.

I'm downloading to the internal drive on my biz machine...then I'll burn disks and install on the DAW. Just checked and it says 5:28 remaining..... going in the wrong direction..... I have the distinct feeling this is going to be a long day today....

Service calls sound kinda good right now, too many people to deal with at work. Wish i could just go and fix something!

OK... 12 hours into the downloading process..... all files are downloaded..... tried to install, found out I need SP3 for XP.... DLing now.... Tried to burn to a disk.... the process was really, really slow so I popped the disk out and copied the files to my zip drive and loaded them on the DAW. Maybe, I'll be running shortly....only about an hour left on the SP3 DL.

last night I copied the wrong file off the downloads folder... what I thought was SP3 wasn't.... so this morning I had to get the right one... it's 316MB and loaded on the thumb drive. I have work to do so it will be this evening at best before I can install sp3 and then I can proceed with the X1 install. I'll give a shout out when it's running.... or I'll come crying for help..... one or the other.

got SP3 installed. Sonar X1 install went smooth. As soon as it was installed, dinner was ready, so...with all that's going on tonight..... it ain't likely I'll get a chance to open it and get the setting right.... So, tomorrow morning I'll load it up, adjust the settings and have a go with it. I do know I have to tell it where some of my VST's are hiding.

SWEET! Needless to say, I have it working. Does it sound better because it sounds better or because it's new? Lots of cool new things in the FX bin to play with and learn. I guess the biggest adjustment is the GUI.... have to learn my way around it all. So far just playing back a few older finished tunes to get the feel of the new desktop. So... next, open a new project and explore the VST's. later...

Rob, Beagle, et al..... Everything is there that I need ...and more.... I've figured out how to hide some of the stuff I don't use (yet) and some of the hot keys to switch from console to track view, got the FX bin to display, loaded up some of the synths and new sounds in X1. Yesterday, I loaded a project and popped in 2 synths and tracked some parts..... figured out the staff view edit (it's different than MC) and played with Boost 11 a bit then deleted it from the project. I have a friend of my daughter coming in tomorrow night to record (first tracking session) the vocals on a new song I've written with Pat. So, looking forward to that session and getting into the audio aspects of X1. So far so good. Yeah, I reference the manual from time to time trying to figure things out but, I'm liking it. So far, no crashes....no glitches, and the synths seemed to load easier and faster. Loading K4 in MC4 was a bit of an effort. But I'll be watching this one closely in the future as I load more synths (especially K4 & EWQL) I played with some of the drum loops... interesting stuff. I may have to start writing hip hop....... ..................not likely. I need to explore the loops and see what is there in the basement corners. I opened the strings and they sounded good... So I have more exploring to do, and now that school has officially started today, (for the teachers /my wife) and kids are back in next week, I will have quiet round here from 7am to 3:30pm for music production when work is slow. I usually plan on taking a break from music in the summer months since there is so much going on and people in the house all the time. It also helps to recharge the batteries so to speak, and now, with a new toy, I mean DAW platform, I'll be back at it creating music..... maybe this afternoon, I have a job this morning that needs to be done, but yeah, tomorrow promises to be a slower day. Can you say ALL DAY in the studio with my new DAW?

Sure will.... however.... It might not happen tomorrow. Just got a trolling motor, and I plan to put it on my canoe and carry it down to the local pond and see how well it works. I have heard good things so tomorrow is the first day I have the time to play on the water. If this works like I'm hoping, I might have to take up fishing again as a pass time. Debating if I'm gonna take the dawg with me...

No fishing song.... but I did fire up the new X1 install and did some vocal audio tracking. Its the new song I've been hinting about. One of my daughter's friends came over and we tracked her vocals to the new tune. This is gonna be a good song...... can't wait to get it done so I can post it. Oh how I was tempted to run back to MC4 (because I know where everything is at) but.... I hung in there and even pulled up the help file once to find something. Anyway, we tracked a few vox tracks. Didi some punch in stuff, ended up deleting it and starting again. Ended with 2 vocal tracks. 2 hours and we were starting to reach the edge of burn out.... I can go longer when working alone..... so we called it a night....with 2 takes on the hard drive. We're gonna get together tomorrow in the AM to do some more music...a song for a possible cue. I was halfway expecting X1 to crash..... after reading all the problems people are having upstairs..... I was pleasantly surprised to do the whole session trouble free..... but I've always found Cake to be fairly stable.... otherwise I'd have switched to something else.....Right? I even popped melodyne in and ran it.... it did a few things it rarely did in MC.... when I clicked and dragged a note, I could hear it....... It did that once or twice in MC... Looking forward to working in X1 tomorrow. more to learn..... up the curve again.
