Signature Limits on Forum
Can anyone explain this to me... I've previoulsy run into this and once again I'mcofused as well as bothered... Last time I tried editing my signature (deleting some info), the system refuses reminding me of the 255 character limit... Even tho I was trying to reduce the number of all-ready-accepted characters (under 255)... Then trying a few different "ways", I finally got it to take... Now again I try to delete a character making it smaller, yet I get refused with the 255 limit again.... and it seems taking out even more doesn't fix the matter until I've eliminated a huge amount of what's already there... Can anyone tell me what's going on (other than me being an idiot)? Thanks... Keni

Try making your individual lines longer & reduce the number of lines. That's what I had to do.

I took that message as a personal critique of my signature. I got over it eventually, though. I came to realize that it's not an indictment of the statements contained within my signature. It's really more of a personal rejection. Hope that helps.

I thought I was using Aritificial Intelligence once. It turned out that I was using Imaginary Intelligence instead. I returned it and got Nonexistent Intelligence. Now, I don't understand the questions anymore.

Keni - your signature as listed is pretty long - maybe reaching the 255 character limit because those links are actaully a LOT longer than they appear in the signature. for example [ link]http://www.soundclick.com/thisisanexampleyadayadayada*$%39239234n-v=w3nf%%%121231;name=Keni's Soundclick[/link] that's not exactly right - just a made up on the fly type of example of how your signature can easily exceed 255 characters even tho it looks to you and everyone else like it's much smaller.

Maybe create an image with the text in and insert it as a link? Never tried it, but it might work.

Yeah, creating my signature was a nightmare too. I tried to get my system specs in there too but I just couldn't do it. All those color tags sucked up my extra characters. And I also noticed that the empty space below the text in my sig takes up more space sometimes, then other times the sig is right at the bottom line of the post. Not sure what causes that either?

I've had the same problems Keni, I think like Beag says, the actual code used for formatting the text counts as part of your 255 characters. It sometimes helps to completely delete everything, save it, close your Control Panel and start again from scratch; you might, for example, have the code for bold typeface, or a colour you no longer want still hidden in the window. Maybe we should get together a petition thread and see if Cake could let us have a bigger limit, or even allow us to embed stuff like mp3 players in our signature spaces. Just a thought.
