Some good time Blues for ya

Here's my newest song done with SONAR X1. It's a little Chicago Blues shuffle thingy I did for my wife called "Too Good To Me".

Heh, never hurts to schmooz the boss

Hope you like it!

Well done!  Vocal sounds great.  Sweet guitar work.  Cool synth vibe.  Nice keyboard lead.

My only comments revolve around the drum kit. I don't care for the kit.  The snare is too bright and distracting.  Kick needs brought out in the mix.  I'd suggest that if possible consider a different drum kit sample.

    Great work here.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Tom

Thanks for listening Tom, I appreciate it!

Kinda agree with your thoughts on the snare, a little tweaking might be in order.
And I didn't play the piano lead, that was constructed with the loops included with the Cakewalk Electric Piano module. I'm not near enough of a keyboardist to pull that off.

Again, thanks for listening and for your kind comments!!

Mr. Cain, Where ya been hidin yourself:)

Sounds pretty potent Bob. Enjoyed. But, I do agree about the snare. But, I think it's more about the verb than the snare. I think you can sing the blues no matter what you think.

Sounds real good.  It put a smile on my face, and I dug the guitar riffs and tone.  Good vox too.  I agree about the drums.

Hi Tim! How you been doin'?
I retired and took a "retirement job" that, of course, keeps me busier than I was before I retired, LOL.

Thanks for the listen and the comments. Yah, I think there's probably a little too much 'verb on the whole mix, I've been noticing it on the vox and the sharp piano attacks too.
I appreciate it Tim, I need to visit your SC page and catch up on some more of your fine stuff. Got a new CD out?

Thanks guitartrek, glad it made you smile. We prolly have the same tastes in tone, I recorded the guitar parts on this one with my Les Paul

Thanks a lot for the listen and the comments. I need to learn to back off on some of that reverb, heh.

I was pretty sure that was your les paul!  I love mine.  You don't typically hear les pauls in blues tunes (or am I completely off base?), but I think it sounds awesome.

Damn... I just flat out LOVED this.  Great tune, and terrific performances on all the instrumentation.  The vocal was perfect IMO.

I'm on my second listen, and marveling at your mix and arrangement.  I guess I can see the others point on the snare, though it really didn't bother me the first time around, possibly because I was so in awe of everything else going on, but I think if you just took the level down some it might do the trick... for me anyway.

BTW- Re your very nice remarks on our remake of 'Walking the dog,' shoot me a PM, and I'll tell you the story of how I came to that particular arrangement (assuming you're interested )

    Great song... excellent blues shouting!

I really liked the guitar tones.

The snare works for me... but that's because I've worked with so many drummers I've learned to think that everyone likes the snare a certain way... I no longer have any pre-expectations.

More kick would be something I'd experiment with.

If anything, I'd love to hear this song with the horns working a different sample library.

If you can access something like a Kontakt brass library I think the song may end up sounding like a live session.

They keys aren't as organic as I like... but I warmed up to the tone... and finally realized I feel the same way as I do about the snare. The keyboard player gets to choose their tone... it's their keyboard. :-)

Thanks for sharing such a fun and well made song.

    best regards,
    mike

Doggone if we aren't getting some good Blues on this forum.  You've captured the good-time, uptown club sound on this one.  Real good guitar work and your arrangement with the horns and keyboard definitely rounds out the song out.  I kind of thought that the drums gave the song a more live sound vs studio sound --- so, to me they were just fine.

I liked this from the opening bars. Terrific lyrics. Strong vocal. Solid bass. Great rhythm guitar and TONE TO KILL FOR on that lead guitar, not to mention tasty licks. Horns and keys sit right where they should in a flawless mix. Simply a fantastic job. With the bonus of helping to maintain that ever important commodity: domestic harmony

Hey Mark, thanks so much for the really kind comments. I sure do appreciate it.
I went to your SoundClick page and listened to "Diamonds And Furs" and "Blues In Reverse". Really nice tunes. I especially liked the different changes right before the solo in "Diamonds" and the whole shootin match on "Blues In Reverse", really great concept for the lyrics and overall great arrangement.

    Thanks again!!

Cool blues numbar! I loved the guitar tones, and also the rolling piano track.  the drums seem kinds washed out, but hey that might be either my hearing going, or the MP3 losses.

Oh and vocals were spot on for the genre!

LOL, your ears must be going Rob, everybody else says the drums, especially the snare, are too loud! (Just kidding, mp3s aren't my favorite either, you never know what's been compromised until you hear the original wav file)
Thanks a lot for listening. The piano tracks were done with Cakewalk's Electric Piano module and the midi loops that ship with it. I just modified them enough to fit the song. I can't play keys for beans, heh.
I liked your stuff on AcidPlanet, especially the song you did for your folks and your cover of Margaritaville. Good stuff!!
