X1 64 Bit Stability Check In - How's It Going?

I'm still running 8.5.3 on XP32, I'm getting ready to take the plunge into a X1 and a new 64bit machine... How's it going out there?

Stability wise, I think it's excellent. But it's not a painless transition. Some effects and instruments don't bit bridge well and lack 64 bit versions. There's still no rewire. Stuff like that.

New projects in 64 bit, you'll have few if any problems with. Getting old projects working is a more chequered experience.

You can mitigate some of this hassle by having both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Sonar installed side by side; this works fine on a single 64 bit OS, no need for dual boot or anything.

I think the stability is great. The only thing to keep in mind is to make sure you do versioning of your projects. I've had two corrupt in X1. Luckily I was able to save the second because of versioning. Plus I save the project as 1 and 2 after the name as well. Never had that in 8.5.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

Any DAW is going to have it's white knuckle occurences here and there. Glad to say, I'm running 32 and 64 side by side on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine and have had no major problems to speak of. Please, remember, the software is only going to run well if the machine is setup for it. BTW, I pretty much am using 64 X1 99% of the time. LOVE IT!

Yeah, I've not had cause to fire up the 32 bit version for a fair few months now.

I have both X1 x64 and x32 on my Win 7 x64 machine.  I use x32 because I had freezing problems with x64, and some plug-ins don't work with bit bridge. I also have Vienna Ensemble Pro to utilize the extra RAM, but actually I rarely need it. x32 works great, no problems at all.

    so... moving from SONAR 8.5.3 XP32 to SONAR X1 Win7 64Bit... I should...

    Install Both the 32 Bit Sonar 8.5.3 - and - the 64 Bit X1

because... of compatibility issues with 64bit Plug Ins...

here's the machine I'm having built - this should be robust enough I think:
    http://bit.ly/newPC64win7

can some one point me to a master list of

    1) Known 64 Bit Plugins Working
    2) Known 32 Bit Plugins Working in 64 Bit
    3) Known 32 Bit Plugins NOT Working in 64 Bit

Most of the plugins I use are Instruments and not Effects.

Many Thanks... oh, and by the way, as cool as Clint Swank is, I still think Bunnyfluffer takes the cake!

bunnyfluffer, here's how I have my system. X1b 64 bit, and 8.53 32 bit version mainly for older projects that rely on 32 bit dx effects and synths that aren't 64 bit compatible.

As for plug-ins, the main ones that gave me grief with Bitbridge were all the KORG Legacy stuff and Drumagog. I had to buy jBridge to get those to work properly. On the flipside of that, the Waves stuff I have works better with Bitbridge. As stated up thread it's a white knuckle ride at first until you get through all the quirks, but for me it's been worth it. X1b 64 is very stable for me and smoother with big projects when using a lot of Audio Snap because with 8 gigs on RAM on my machine it never sees the swap file.

X64 all round (Windows 7) I don't have x32 version installed at all. I use JBridge for most of my bridging and I've known rocks less stable than how I find X1. It's solid...

Been working fine here since 2007. It would have been a lot better if the plugin and vst developers had been quicker to adopt the platform

Almost the same - although I don't have Jbridge - I find CW BitBridge makes all my x86 plugs play happily....

    I wouldn't say it's totally stable though.
Whenever I invoke V-Vocal on projects over around 3.5GB X1 crashes no matter how small the V-Vocal clip is. I have 8GB RAM so shouldn't have a problem. I have found strange behaviour (tools randomly not working until X1 is restarted/invisible progress bar on bounce - yes I am looking in the right place see the screenshot I posted last night etc etc)......

    W7x64 (not installed SP1 yet) X1b x64 build 242 - not installed Hotfixes waiting for a fully tested X1c

Stable as rock! Has been for a long time.. Make sure you use the real version, X64.
The x32bit version is a compile version from the X64bit build.

I am just really starting to get going on X1b 64 bit on Windows 7 on a brand new PCAL mobile i7 running with 12G of RAM. I was previously running 8.5.3 on a separate underpowered Windows 7 64 bit PC.My big issue so far is trying to integrate the VST for my Waldorf Blofeld successfully into Sonar X1. In trying to do so I noticed several crashes of X1 which left an orphaned Sonar process thread that effectively prevented me from restarting Sonar without going into the task manager and manually killing the process. This may have nothing to do with the VST but what seemed to cause the issue was setting up midi clocking and MMC to be sent out with Sonar as the master out three of my USB ports and my single firewire port.

I have the firewire hooked up to a MOTU 828 MKII, one USB up to Roland Octa-Capture, one to a USB hub which attaches my Blofeld and M-Audio Axiom 61, one USB to an M-Audio Venom, and one to a Korg nanoKontrol controller. The nanoKontrol is not selected as a midi output device. There is nothing attached to the midi ports of the Octa-Captur or MKII so midi loops are not the issue. I know the clocking is being received because I can see the midi light on the Waldorf blipping away. The MKII and Octa-Control are strapped together via SPDIF  with the MKII as the timing master for audio clocking.

The PC has way more than enough horsepower to handle this as measured by the CPU load seen in Sonar and within the task manager so that should have nothing to do with it. I created a project which had nothing but a single track.

I haven't had any issues with anything except the midi integration so far that were not a result of my ignorance. I am just starting to get used to the new interface but as I use it more I really appreciate it.

If you are not trying to do crazy things strapping a bunch of devices together like I do in my mad scientist moments then you are probably going to be fine.

I do very simple projects with few FX.  I am using Pro Channel and finding that it works fine.  I use EZ Drummer with no problems.  X1b has never crashed  on me.

So far most of my problems have been operator error. I had a hard time finding things. I have the same problem with my keys. Mine seems to be very stable. The bitbridge in particular seems to be very solid. I've encountered a few bugs but the good folks here had already figured out workarounds. Hopefully those things will be addressed in the update.

    I had too many show-stoppers so I installed Sonar 8.x 32-bit.
My UAD-1 card wouldn't play nicely with X1, and simple stuff like midi triggers not being correct, WSOD, etc.

For me, I'd rather work in S8 cause I know it works and I'm quick in it.  I gave X1 a week to make me happy.  I worked on it daily.  No luck, constant headaches.  It's been the first time I ever felt the need to submit bug reports, and I did more than once.
