What's up Michael? just talking to meself probably.

After getting exhausted dealing with PC upgrades, software issues, SOFTWARE COMPANY issues , questionable investing with an undetermined goal and no satisfaction with sharing the results I decided to put recording on hold and learn to do something else. ( about two years ago)
That was to invest into building guitars. After all, both are nothing more than a hobby to me so why not do both and take breaks as needed?
Well it was a good plan for me.

I have determined though that I understand building a guitar much more than I do with the music business. The issues are much easier to resolve to achieve desired results. After all I'm not held up while somebody else is trying to fix something or just no resolve in sight for way to many issues.

What I'm getting at is- just my opinion-based on my experience here. I've never used anything but Cakewalk software and have been using it for many years.

I don't understand a company that sells goods for musicians to not only create music but record it and doesn't support
them with a place to upload and present their creations.
I feel that if they were a company that truly focused on the needs and desires of the members that invest their time, money and support of their product that the results would be showcased proudly.
They shouldn't have to go to another site and post material that they've invested in and be limited to inferior options. They should not have to go anywhere at all to share the results.
If Cakewalk software is capable of producing professional results then why don't they support the members with a way to hear it?
It's all about sound isn't it? Well for all the years I've been around here its been all about typed words. If you want to hear anything you
have to follow a link to somewhere else ....so you can hear a low quality file. !! geeze man, why would I want to do that?

To expensive? Is that their answer? Is that the same answer for the forum software issue too? Is it really that everything is to expensive
except what they sell us?

Well we better hope that that is their answer because if it isn't- they just don't care about taking care of the folks they sell their product to.

It's just my opinion and feeling I got -from them. I also got tired of having to go somewhere else and post my music....two years ago... and
I haven't posted any since. I worked hard to get high quality and the only place I hear it is from my system.

I also quit participating in the songs forum for the same reason. How am I going to learn quality sound if there is no place to hear it?
How can I suggest to somebody else about the quality of their music when I'm listening to low bitrate files?
What little good it does me to post a low quality file and expect feedback to be helpful?
Well like I said, two years ago or so I decided it just wasn't worth the effort as I was posting to learn....not just to have somebody hear me.

Cakewalk...you put me to sleep and I awoke to learn something new....thanks for that. I think you need to wake up too. Start supporting the
folks that have been supporting you.
So if it's just to expensive for you to support me...when you do wake, you may find that I found it was just to expensive to support you.....
and spent my money on wood.

Michael

    Thank you Mike.

I think I'm going to take a break from it when I complete Wookiees'

Hopefully this crazy heat will have let up and I can build my shop.
My wife has been cool about me turning our patio into a woodshop
but neither of us really knew if I would or could continue.

It will be thirty feet long ( 25 x 30) and I'm going to isolate the back 12 x 25
for tools and leave the rest for my Harley and talk her into a pool table
    which won't be hard....
Then I can record, make guitars and shoot some pool.

I'll also have to build some cabinets.....be glad when you post some more
of your work...absolutely beautiful work you do.

Morning coffee before I get started making saw dust. Cheers Mike.

I would say price is definitely an issue. Think about how many people post on here. If it were possible to post on here and then send links to others directing them to the post, think about how many people would use it like a drop box or something. Then keep bandwidth as well as the gigs it would take to store all that stuff not to mention the problems it may bring on. It's like I go to my Corvette dealer the other day to look at a new ZR 1. I can't be mad at him because he doesn't have a test course behind the building so I can see what it can do, ya know? Drop box is free. It's nothing to install it, drop your file in your public folder, right click and paste the link it creates for people to hear. It doesn't even take you to another site...it opens up the music player of your choice for mp3's automatically without sending you somewhere in your browser. Same with pictures or videos. Drop em in your box, right click, paste the link. So to me, with tools like that out there, why should the company foot the bill for hosting mp3's of its customers? I just can't see that as really being feasible...especially in this economy today.

As far as the forum software and your new hobby, I agree with you 100% there. I'm not crazy about this forum software at all, that's for sure. You're really doing fantastic with the guitar building...so if this is what made you realize that, thank you to Cakewalk is definitely the most appropriate answer in my opinion. :)

    Dropbox is a great solution.

So now the issue that-  people posting material that don't post a high quality example for others to evaluate are doing so for what reason?

Danny I can say this....If I were the man and Cakewalk were mine...as a registered member and having purchased my flagship software you'd be able to post at least one high quality file at my site for other registered members. ( not over 2GB- free just like Dropbox)

That's not the only issue that drove me to find another hobby. It was one of many issues I had a couple of years ago, as I mentioned. Not all of them are resolved and may never be....oh well. Looking ahead is key.

    Thanks for the kudos Danny.

Speaking of Dropbox - the other day I saw some software (not music related) that has Dropbox built in to make collaboration easier.  I didn't know any one was doing that!

That could a cool addition to Sonar one day.
