Hi, Mack - Nostalgic topic, that very first version of Session Drummer. It was a DXi which was hardwired to Cakewalk so that as soon as there was a version of Cakewalk that didn't include SD, you couldn't open it - it wasn't possible (as far as I could see) to get SD registered after the fact of installing a new version of Cakewalk.
But I experimented to see SD's MIDI patterns could be used - and they could, BUT they weren't practical to work with. In that SD interface, you would dial up different variations of patterns, the way you do in the current SD, but the program was accessing just a segment of a larger MIDI file. Without the interface, all you had were super long MIDI files which you could search through to find the various bits.
I used those a few times, searching and slicing, but it was too time consuming.
That's my experience with the original SD anyway.
