the M and the S.

I got to have fun with a choir recording today and I got  a chance to set up a M/S pair in addition to some X/Ys.

I think I like the M/S best. I wish I did more of that stuff.

The best part was hearing the choir rehearse for their morning service... the sweet harmonies put a smile on my face.

Have you ever tried mixing the x/y in with the m/s after the decode?

This can come in useful for doing crazy stuff like that.

    "those sexy curves again"

    Exactly.

I'm experimenting with various phase relationships on several sexy curves just now.

    Nice kitty btw Alex...

    I have and I haven't... I mean I have thought about... but I haven't done it.

I was reading up about M/S yesterday as I was enthused and needed a refresher (and I've been reading about Ambisonic surround sound microphone work as well) and the thing is... a properly decoded M/S stream is mathematically equal to X/Y. The added feature of M/S is that you can "adjust" the angle of coverage after the fact.

     M/S is an X/Y system.

When I said I used the other mics in X/Y I was doing the 90* coincident setup and was being lazy by just calling them X/Y.

     Or something like that.

     :-)

     best,
    mike

Yes but I don't have the mics to do it properly (i.e the Side component comes out like 'wide mono') nor a slide rule so I just play about in my sonic sandbox and kick down any castles I don't like and build fortifications out of what I do like...

I do have fun though even if I do have to sweep up all the sand that's spread out onto the floor every now and then.

    :-)

Give me an omni and a box a sand and I can stay pretty happy.
