Can't create Wave Files

I have a 2004 version of Home Studio.  I recently cleaned-up my hard drive, defragged etc.  Cakewalk seems to be working fine for me, but when I try to export a project to a wave file, the machine goes through all the motions, but it makes something other than a wave file. Whatever it's putting together and saving in unintelligible. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the forum!
What is the unintelligible  file extension? Have you selected Broadcast Wav in export options?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

When I look at the properties of the file that gets exported, under Type of File, it just says, "File."  Nothing will open the file.  I tried Broadcast Wave, and the machine didn't even go through the motions of an export.

    Thanks,

That sounds really weird. And I take it you've exported succesfully with the same rig before the cleanup?

Is there anything special in the project? What does it consist of?

It might be you need to re-install Home Studio. Maybe something important has gotten corrupt or removed during the cleanup/defragging.

What exactly did you do except for defragging?

I removed a bunch of program files for things I now longer use. I have exported to wave many, many times. This is the first time I've encountered this problem .  Reinstalling the software has occurred to me, but it scares me a little. I've built many layouts and templates I'm concerned I'll lose if I reinstall.

There is nothing unusual in the project. I've exported this particular type of project many times. I'm really at a loss as to why the program is behaving so strangely. I hope someone on this forum will have an answer.

    Thanks for the help.

I've learned something. I copied the stuff in the tracks of the project from which I couldn't export a wave file. I pasted them in a new project file. The automation didn't copy. I exported that project and made a playable wave file.  Then, I automated the project and exported the project again. It made a file of some kind put it wasn't a wave file, and it wouldn't play in windows media player or any other program. What could be the issue with the way I'm applying automation?

    Please help!
