Sonar X1 with the VS 700 (Sonar X1 or Factory Included Software?)

I'm buying into the VS700 console.  I understand it comes with either Sonar 8 or 8.5.  But I have been looking at the X1.  How well will the control surfaces and I/O integrate with the software?  I am not new to Roland, I have used their stand alone systems for many years, but I will be new to DAW, so the question stands to be answered, which platform should I cut my teeth on?  I am getting the console set from a reputable dealer at a great price, so I'm definitely down; but I'm looking for opinions about the software.  It seems the X1 runs on a different 'platform' than the previous versions, so I could potentially have to learn two platforms.

    The integration wasn't fully complete at launch, but was sorted out with the X1b patch. I got a v700 about a month ago, and have been using it with X1, and the integration is excellent. Am still discovering all kinds of useful tricks you can do with it.

    X1 works great with the VS700! It speeds up my project time leaps and bounds.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
    Is it a new one?  Maybe Sonar will upgrade for free or really cheap.  If I were you I would just get X1 and learn it because there are many pro's in it over 8.5.

    Yes, the item is new. I need to try to contact Cakewalk to see if the 8.5 - X1 upgrade will work for me since its considerably cheaper. I believe the console comes with 8.0.
