Simple way to Create Harmonies with V-Vocal?

I have an TC Helicon VoiceWorks Plus and it does a respectable job of creating harmonies from MIDI notes (although some people's voices work better than others).  I have created harmonies in a VS-1680 with great results, although it is very tedious.

The only way I can think of to do this in X1 is to create multiple copies of the vocal track and then use V-Vocal in each one to move the notes around (setting whatever formant parameter is required to avoid chipmonk or Darth Vader sounds).

Is this the best approach?

I don't use V Vocal but in Melodyne you just grab everything and drag it a few steps.

Personally I'd rather just sing the harmonies...singing harmonies is too much fun to miss out on.

    all the best,

    Agreed...
If you can sing half-decent, you'll likely find it quicker/easier to just sing the parts.
Also, if you double or triple each part, you can create a nice 'animated' wide stereo image for the background vocals.

I use a Voice-Live II unit when singing live... (mainly for control over double and delay EFX)
The intelligent harmony tracks and sounds pretty good.  BTW, You could use the unit in the studio.
Due to the convenience and overall quality, IMO it's all too easy to over-do (or over-use) the EFX.  I've been guilty of this myself.  Setup 3-part harmony (one part above and one below) and it's instant Rascal Flatts.
Setup 3-part harmony (two parts above) and it's instant Damn Yankees.

My wife is the best studio singer I have ever worked with and can nail ridiculously complex harmonies without effort, so I rely on her quite a bit.

I am not a good harmony singer and like to add a few simple touches here and there electronically.  Even with Behka (my wife) I have sometimes gone in and added a few lines I thought of at odd times when she was not available.

Also, although I have not cut any amateur demos lately, I used to do that a lot and it really thrilled singers when I could add a little line here and there.

I would also like to know how to do this.

Although I do agree that singing the harmony is the best method, I think there are times when creating harmonies would be helpful too.

Mystic, Agreed: well-worth $300. It is sometimes good not to buy techology when it first appears.  If I remember correctly, I paid somewhere around $800-900 when the TC VoiceWorks Plus first came out.  A few years before that, I had paid around the same for a Digitech Vocalist.

About real v machine harmonies, I do agree, but one other thing to consider is that the TC will do some effects that would be hard to create any other way: like creating a big crowd sound, or a group of children, etc.

I will try to create some harmonies with V-Vocal and report back.  I am anxious to see if this sounds more or less real than the TC.  I think it will be better because it will be created off-line while the TC has to analyze and create in real time, with leads to brief glitches.

Anyone with information or experience using V-Vocal for harmonies, please jump in.

V-Vocal is ideally suited to fixing small amounts of data where the vocals are off a bit not really for full on tracks of harmonies.

I hear you! When I start out with a new song idea, I often rush through the recording of comp tracks and scratch lead vocal so I can get on with the backup vox.

You might get away with it in V-Vocal if you're singing close harmonies, in other words not expecting V-V to shift notes by more than a few semitones. This is where V-V can show its frailties.

As stated above, the tool was designed to correct small pitch variations.
