Crackle/stutter when playback stops (while recording)
In X1c, sometimes I stop playback, I hear crackling or stuttering noises for a fraction of a second. Increasing the "fade out" time to 1000 ms doesn't consistently help. The crackling happens most often when I've been recording MIDI. If I'm just doing playback, I usually don't hear it. I've not had this problem in a long time, on either X1b or Sonar 8.5.3. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I have been getting the same problem all today. Whenever I stop playback after recording MIDI, I get a crackle. This only seems to happen when I record; if I am just playing backup bits of the song I don't get the crackle. Anyone else have the same problem?

I have noticed 2 additional things: 1) I don't need to record any notes to hear the crackle; all I have to do is enter record mode (hit "r" during playback) and when playback stops, I get the crackle. 2) If I exit record mode (hit "r" again) before playback stops, I don't get the crackle when I stop playback. So, the crackle occurs if (and only if) I stop playback while in record mode. This implies that it's a software issue and not a hardware issue. Does that help narrow down the possible culprits?

You're not alone.. Same thing happening here under the circumstances you described above. I'm also betting on it being a software issue.

This bug is so aggravating! I tried the following: 1) set Audio / "Play Effects Tails After Stopping" 2) set Audio / "Fade On Stop" to 1000 ms 3) disable Project / Record / Allow Arm Changes... 4) switch from WDM to ASIO These didn't help. Increasing the audio latency *did* help, but only if I increased it from 5.8 ms to more than 20 ms. That of course will not be an option, since we need low latency when recording. Other things I noticed: - The crackle doesn't occur if no other instruments are playing. - The crackle is sometimes more like a stutter, which is easiest to hear when you only have drum patterns playing; when you stop playback, you hear the last hit. So, it's almost as if the last few ms of the audio buffer get played as soon as playback stops when in record mode.

So we have a bit in common: 1) 64 bit Windows 7 2) 64 bit Sonar X1 3) Intel i7 I doubt the hardware has anything to do with it, actually... It's most likely a bug in Sonar. I wonder if anyone running 32 bit Sonar X1 and/or 32 bit Windows 7 has the same problem.

I also notice a similar crackle/stutter whenever I save the project during playback. I wonder if the 2 are related? (My project is only 744KB and I'm on a fast PC and have not noticed stuttering during a save before).
