I Want to Purchase a Cowbell

Are there any out there for less than $30 dollars?  After strings and picks I won't have much left for a cowbell.

Find a herd and ask until you find a cow that has done with theirs.

Failing that eBay would be a good choice for that kind of thing.  Around $15?

If you are going to use it mounted rather than hand held make sure it's clamping mechanism is up to the job and will work with whatever you intend to mount it on.

Thanks Jonbouy! The drummer has a mounted one. I need one for our vocalist.

Wow! What a brilliant idea! You do know I live in Texas! Man there is cows everywhere! Most are working cows so my best bet is to wait till afternoon when it's hot and IT's HOT then while they are nappin sneak up and grab one!But then there's them bulls. They hang out around them cows. I don't think they take naps. Those dirty bastages probably won't give me the chance to sneak up on em'. Our vocalist is too lazy to get one for himself. My work is never done!

Go here:

http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/tx

Pick the city closest to you, pick musical instruments, then search on cowbell.  You can get it much faster than eBay if you can meet someone locally to pick it up and it's usually a lot cheaper too.

The cowbell, IMHO is the one piece of percussion, more than any other, that functions as a loud, cutting metronome on stage … and WILL affect the entire bands tempo in a live setting.

My advice, whatever you do … DON’T let the singer play cowbell!

It's usually OK, they often just give up when they can't find the mouthpeice.

I went to purchase a Guitar cord the other day.

They are a strange bunch the guys in them shops ain't they?

This guy asked how long I wanted it.  I told him I expected to keep it.

"Drummers" he muttered under his breath.

So how did he know?  I must be more well-known than I thought.

In some rare cases, a cowbellist may choose to sing.  If, however, a singer becomes enamored of the cowbell (and who wouldn't be?), they may perceive themselves as "multi-talented".  This extreme delusion should be dealt with swiftly and decisively.

Telling them, "You can't play that one because that's a Left Handed Cowbell" may temporarily dissuade them, but it probably won't be enough to quell their impulses.  Wrapping the cowbell in enough gaffer tape to make the resulting bundle approximately the size of a Volkswagen will help to minimize the damage they may cause, but will not cure their delusions.  Negative reinforcement, such as screaming, "NO!" every time they reach for it, is not going to work.  The following techniques have been proven to be effective in helping singers to achieve a modicum of self-control.
  1. Distract them with a mirror.  There's nothing more attractive to a singer than themselves.
  2. 10,000 volts.  Some suggest this should be a last resort, but it may prove as a useful object lesson if you have (or had) multiple singers in your band.
  3. Replace the singer's cowbell with an empty tamborine.  Once those little cymbals are removed, there's very little damage a singer can cause with one.
  4. String a lot of scarves on their mic stand.  Ok.  There's only one recorded case where this worked, but you might try it if you're desperate.
Hope that helps.

Instead of going to a music store, you could go to a farm supply store or a hardware store in a farming community. That, or see if a cow is selling on on eBay. LOL
