Firewire on Sonar?

So I just got Sonar 5 Producer Edition, and I have a question about firewire connection. I'm using a Tascam Fw-1804 interface to record on. I'm using the firewire as the connection. When I have to choose which audio device I want, it gives me these options: FW1804 Analog 1:2 FW1804 ADAT 1:2 FW1804 ADAT 3:4 FW1804 ADAT 5:6 FW1804 ADAT 7:8 FW1804 SPDIF 1:2 Which one do I choose for the firewire connection? Because I've tried recording (even with the coax out, or SPDIF) and nothing's coming up... Any help is much appreciated!

You don't want the ADAT, unless you actually have an ADAT connected to it. Chose analog 1:2 and you should be good to go.

FYI: The SPDIF, is a digital connection, so you need a digital input source if your using that. if your recording guitar or vocals, you need to use an analog input and/or a mic pre, depending on your signal chain

You may want to check out the set up videos. It's straightforward but needs to be done correctly so you can record and hear playback.

And don't forget to use the crank handle on Sonar 5 otherwise it won't start.

Okay, so now it's recording, but only on one mic (even when I ARM three channels.) I'm trying to record 3 separate mics simultaneously. I'm given to understand that my interface CAN do this, to three separate channels, but how do I set it to do it?

You need to connect each mic into its own Mic pre-amp, if your interface has 3 pre-amps, you can do this. If your mics are condensor mic's, you need to enable phantom power to each mic preamp.

You need to set up each track so it matches the mic preamp input of the interface.

Google??? There's about thousand pages to study in the SONAR manual + the tutorials (it's 1500 pages today, but maybe version 5 has a little less). Spend a few days just studying. It's worth it.

What CJ means is that each tracks input has to be set correctly.

And one small thing: Don't advertise that you just got version 5, because I don't think you can get it legally anywhere. That being a five year old version I don't think it's a major crime, though :o) Enjoy your music making.

Wait now I have a general problem...my computer isn't picking up my interface! It's plugged in, the firewire card is enabled, it's all updated and everything. I know because just yesterday, it was working. Now it's not even showing up if I go to audio options, and look at recording devices. It IS turned on, and I don't know what's different form yesterday. When I restart my computer, it works for a little, then once again, it just stops showing up. Does anyone know anything about this?

Are you stupid? You just boasted using an illegal copy of SONAR. That usually makes it very difficult to get any support on the forum, and quite obviouslöy you're not doing very well without help :o/

And I wasn't boasting. I was just telling you that that's what happened. I'm sorry if I offended you.
