mtc QUESTION

Hi All
Question about MTC?
I have just had some old 8 track demos digitized and some of them were striped with an MTC. They did have drums and other instrumentation that was being generated by external sound modules. After importing all the 8 tracks I noticed that the 8th track is just a horrible noise which is obviously the MTC (or something) can this be read by sonar and if so what can I use it for. I don't know what the original tempo was for these tracks but I'm hoping that perhaps that information would be available to sonar and it would automatically set the tempo accordingly. I have one track I'd like to work on but the tempo speeds up incrementally throughout the song so it would take forever to figure it out.

Thanks in advance

Steve

MTC usually refers to MIDI time code and in transmitted through a midi interface. It sounds like you have LTC or longitudinal (or linear) time code on a tape's audio track.  Sonar can't do anything with that by itself, you'd need a LTC->MTC converter.

But, even if you had that it probably wouldn't solve your problem of not having a tempo or measure grid for your project. That would be a job for Audiosnap, not of the timecode.

Load up your tracks, find one that has the most obvious 'beat' reference. Select it, and "set project from clip" in the Audiosnap window.  That should do it if you're lucky.  If not, record one more track of just you tapping every beat along with the rest of the tracks to create your own metronome track.  Then use that one to "Set project from clip".

Sorry I don't have more specific instructions, but I'm going by memory.
