No sound from VRM Box in X1
I have connected the VRM box to the USB port and I selected it as the output device from the Device preferences. I also set the output of the master bus to VRM Box....i see the faders moving , but no sound. What am I missing here. When I use the box outside Sonar, it works fine.

I couldn't get my VRM box working with X1 without a constant hum so I scrapped it and just went ahead and got the Focusrite Pro24 DSP which has VRM included...which works fine. Remember to use the VRM box your VRM has to recieve digitally...I believe I had to get a spdif cable to attach it to my then MAudio Fast Track Ultra. How are you feeding the VRM signal?

Oh i see....strange to know the box didnt work with x1...i just connected the USB cable...thats all the manual says......the SPDIF option would b required if u want to use VRM and ur regular interface at the same time, which is not what im trying to do....i just want to chk my mixes directly from X1.

OK, when you say you selected it as an output device...do you mean Sonar sees it and you selected it INSIDE Sonar? What drivers are you running...wdm or asio? Are you concurrently running another audiocard/interface?

Yes, i can see the VRM Box as a device in X1...i tried with asio as well as WDM...no luck. I unchecked the regular audio interface outputs that I use and selected only the VRM Box in the device preferences.

Well, that is weird. No signal at all? I can't remember what you had to have the VRM software mixer set to now. But on my Pro24DSP I have to manually select the VRM headphone out in the Pro24 software mixer for it to sound. I wish I could help more...but mine didn't work well either. Are you using the latest drivers?

VRM is 48k. I think the sample rate has to be set that way if you route out through USB.

Solved the issue...the problem was that I had connected the device through a USB hub....connected it to the port directly and it works. Thanks for the inputs.

I have a question concerning the VRM box... I am using a RME-UFX which doesn't have SPDIF ins or outs only adat & AES/XLR digital connections. But I have a Focusrite Pro 40. I'm wondering if I come out of the UFX with an Adat lightpipe into the Pro 40 and then out of the Pro 40 SPDIF into the VRM box would it function that way? I haven't attempted this set up yet - my Pro 40 is connected to a different computer right now.

In theory that should work. Why not give it a try? Although that's a lot of hoops to jump through for the VRM.

Well, I've got it all hooked up now but no success in getting any sound from the VRM box as yet. I'm thinking that I'll need to make some setting in the RME Total Mix but I haven't figured out what to do just yet.

So far I have the Adat #2 output of the UFX to send an AES/SPDIF signal and the Pro 40 to use Adat as optical SPDIF and still no sound from the VRM box...

I received a solution to this set up on the RME Forum. I can use a "Hosa GXF-132 RCA to XLR3F" adapter - which converts the UFX AES/XLR digital output to RCA SPDIF. I'll be ordering one to see if it makes everything all good.
