I always thought Barney was the smart one.

Barneys' car was probably one of them that Fred hit.

If he'd have used his head as an anchor he probably would have stopped the truck.

Works for me, although I've never tried it in an emergency.

And what were those guys at intersections thinking?
Anybody that's tried stopping a runaway truck with their own vehicle is bound to end up with bodywork repair bills.  You have to just watch from a safe distance and let it roll.

My guess is that the guy was having an affair with Betty and was in a rush to get home before Wilma started to suspect something.

Ok.  Now I want to know if the stereo in his truck was playing Locomotive Breath at the time.  That would have made the moment perfect.

i remember ONCE having something like that happen up here.

My car's brakes failed me at an intersection of 2 concession roads...I went through that intersection, narrowly missing a van, and aimed the car into a small ditch..it dinged up the car but it did stop it!!

When I go outside, I actually get surprised when I don't see something stupid happening at regular intervals.....especially on the road.
Just yesterday, I was on the freeway going 65mph (speed limit) and was passing this guy in a new SUV going about 45 in the middle lane. When I looked at him, he was pre-occupied texting with the phone on top of the steering wheel. You'd be surprised at how many people do this while driving and the cops are never around when needed. Common sense seems to be a gift to some of these people.

When I was younger and stupider(er), our family car was a 1968 Buick Elektra, roughly the size of Manhattan.  The defroster didn't work, so the inside of the windshield iced up in the winter.  The driver's door had to be held shut.  The accelerator stuck and you'd have to stomp on it to jar it free.  I drove in the foothills of the Cascade mountains all the time.  I remember rocketing down a hill with a stuck accelerator towards a busy intersection.  I hit the gas to kick the pedal free, and it stuck all the way down.  That car had a 450 that could launch spacecraft, so I shot forward so fast I could see time begin to unravel.  With no time to think, I put both feet on the brake, hauled back on the wheel, and locked up the tires.  The pedal broke free, the car skidded to a stop and about a week later, we were able to pry my mothers fingers from the dashboard.  Within another week, her scream stopped echoing in my head.

Yes.  We kept driving the car that way...

I used to have a car when I was very young and very poor that the front brakes did not work without the sound of metal grinding and obviously that won't stop a Ford Escort doing 70 (probably its top speed!).  but the rear brakes worked OK, so I used the hand brake which was tied only to the rear brakes to stop.  I did this for several months until I saved up enough money to buy new pads and rotors and calipers.  (of course saving up for brake parts was SECONDARY between the necessities of life like beer, Jack Daniels, herbs to smoke, white powder to...well...you get the point...)
