Laptop or desktop?
I Prefer Laptop. because it is portable you can use it every where. The big advantage of laptop is that it contain less space as compare to desktop, home and office PC are same. Which one you prefer and why?

Laptops are obviously more portable than desktops, so the more important question is whether or not your family needs portability. If you don’t accept a committed amplitude in your home for the computer, or if ancestors associates will wish to use the computer in altered rooms, a laptop is an ideal option. If you plan to move the computer infrequently, a desktop is a better buy for your money.

Which should I buy? Laptop or Desktop? Laptops have a great advantage in terms of their portability. If you carry a laptop with you, your applications and documents are always immediately available. With a wireless card, your laptop can also access the Internet while on the go, so you have more places to do research, check your email, and be more productive. Desktops offer other advantages. Although laptop prices have come down and performance has increased, most desktops offer a better price-to-performance ratio. Desktops also still hold some ergonomic advantages over laptops. Bear in mind that, aside from small footprint desktops like the iMac or Inspiron One (available for personal purchase through our Dell Educational Purchase Program), they take up more space in an apartment or residence hall. Your decision should be based primarily on how you plan to use your computer and the size of your computing budget. Here are some factors to consider:

I think laptop is the better than desktop. It can be carried with you from room to room, between home and work, or used while on the road. You can browse internet anywhere with laptop.

I prefer desktop for music production. After you plug in everything like the interface, midi controller, headphones and speakers there isn't much of a difference.

If you're doing music production in generally one spot (like home) a desktop for sure. More powerful, quieter, longer lifespan generally and more upgrade-able. If you need to produce music in multiple locations then get a laptop, though there are sacrifices in performance, price and other things you make in exchange for mobility

I've been running Sonar 8 and now Sonar 8.5 on a laptop for over a year now and have NO complaints. I'm glad I choose a laptop over a desktop and would do it again in a heartbeat. But this is mainly because I enjoy recording with friends, and expected to have to lug arround equipment. I purchased a 15" HP Envy, so it is MUCH easier to carry around than a large PC desktop and monitor. I also use 1 of 2 of my USB mixers, many mics and USB midi devices. Surprisingly the laptop handles everything very smoothly, and the specs are not SUPERB considering I bought it over a year, close to 2 years ago. 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4mb ram, and a decent but low quality onboard graphics card with a dedicated 1mb ram JUST for graphics. Only problem I have run into is I've been surviving on 260gig HD, which is not that much at all but many new laptops have much much more than that. This was bought for under ~1000 too, refurbished model from ebay. I highly recommend checking eBay for refurbished models as you will save hundreds buying one, there is nothing wrong with buying refurbished & they come with warranties too. Although I haven't had a single problem with my laptop, I will sometimes run Spybot and clean up my HD but no need to F disk and reinstall windows, I'm actually surprised how it runs so well after all it's been through :] so it really depends on what you intend on doing, but I would always recommend a laptop. I actually run mine with dual monitors, so I have another 22" to work with when I'm in my home studio but have no problem and very little effort required to bring it to a friends and record there. help this helped! EDIT: I just wanted to add I also posted on this forum long ago asking the same thing, looked into different products and put a lot of time researching a for a machine that worked for me. All that research payed off, as I love and use it everyday and don't have a single regret buying what I did. That's what really matters! Althought it's generally assumed laptops are much more expensive than desktops and lack preformance, I think that's because many people look at Macbook Pros for prices. DON'T buy a Mac unless you HAVE the money to spend, honestly I can find you a reliable win7 laptop with better specs than the BEST macbook pro offered for a fraction of the price. Look at this referbished envy at Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157967 For $750 you get some AMAZING specs, Intel i5 2.66ghz speed, 6mb Ram, and a 700rpm 500gig HDD. Not to mention an internal DVR-RW drive (I needed to buy external, the first models of the Envy had no disk drive -_-) I know it's not an i7 and is not currently available on NewEgg, but you can easily find the i7 version on ebay from a trusted and verified seller, obtaining a i7 quadcore laptop for under ~1000, with all the quadcore models of Macbook Pros just starting at ~1800, not including the needed ram upgrade as they all come with 4mb stock. Sorry if that seemed like an anti-OSX rant, but as you can see I have done plenty of research and know what I'm talking about. I'm sick and tired of seeing people wasting money on apples hardware when you can get better for so much less, and if you keep good care of any machine running win7 there is really no excuse for running into problems.

@Windsurfer25x Lol, I can't tell you how many times I've had an idea and have been able to record a melody, lyric or song idea in a few seconds then plug my ipod in when I get home to take my idea and really get to work! iOS has its place and its a great tool for what I use. :)
