X1c with 2 monitors

Do the 2 monitors have to be the same? I have(using now) Dell 23" 1920X1080. In my closet I have a Sony 19" monitor, not sure of the resolution. Can I hook up the Sony with the regular VGA or should I use the splitter (came with Video card) for the DVI?
Or am I just dreamimg?

I'm thinking that it should be OK to use both.

I've got two monitors here but both were 23" ones right from the get go.

I have DVI to 2 VGA splitter and also a VGA to DVI adapter for the graphics card to have 2 DVI's? How do you have your monitors hooked up if you don't mind me asking?

The graphic card I have has 2 DVI's in it.. EVGA GTX500 has 2 DVI slots...

I'm thinking that in your case it should work just as well with either ... now, in my case..if I went for three monitors...which I am considering, I may need to do summat like what you are considering...

Monitor size and resolution don't have to be the same. However, I liked it to be the same as it's easier on my eyes.

Since you have the splitter just connect the monitors and test it. Once the monitor is connected, right click on the desktop  and select the 'screen resolution' and you should see more than one monitor, where you can identify it (your display will be shown with a big number '1 , 2 , 3 , etc..') so you know the monitor order, and you can also setup which will be the main, as well as it's individual resolution.

Depending on your card spec, you may have to mix up the display output.

For example, I have a Radeon HD5450 card with dvi, hdmi and vga, but i can only use any 2 output at the same time with this card.

I have three monitors,  one is a TV that I use to play back picture in Sonar,  one is an old 15" flat screen I rescued from the garbage bin that displays staff/marker views and one is a newer 26' monitor with the main Sonar app.

Im no tech guy,  but I believe it all depends on your graphics card and how many/what kind of out puts it has.

I have a Geforce GT220 - it has the same outputs as yours

Thanks for all the quick responses-I will give it a shot tomorrow. I must add I have been really liking the digital on the Dell-crystal clear. So I think first I'll try just hooking the Sony 19" up to the VGA connector and see what I get.
If that's no good I'll try the splitter.
    Thanks again Folks!

If you use VGA, test it with the original (short) VGA cable. I've tried to replace a longer VGA cable and it did not pick up the correct resolution (got lower resolution), and a volt meter test shows some pins are not being connected correctly on those 'faulty' VGA cable. Going back to the original VGA cable, the resolution is fine again.

Here's some additional info on mixing different graphic cards :

I'm also running a 3rd Dell 21.5 monitor via a second Geforce 210 card (I bought the Radeon HD5450 to replace the Geforce 210 thinking I could use 3 display that comes with it.. only to find out I can't) ..and to save cost of getting yet another card, I plug back the Geforce 210 just for test (loaded both Radeon and Geforce drivers) and it worked.

    (D)igital (V)ideo (I)nterface.

All configs will work, no problem!

VGA to DVI adapter. = Only change are the contact. Still sends out a analog video signal.
DVI to AVG adapter. = Change the contact to a VGA. The Signal are digital but your monitor change it to an ANALOG signal.

    The BEST Quality!
The best quality of the image are with DVI to DVI or DVI to HDMI or HDMI to HDMI.
All are digital! HDMI have and use the same signal as DVI. The only differnens between a DVI VS HDMI contact is that HDMI can have a SOUND inbedded in the signal/cabel.

I use one NVIDIA card with TWO 24# Monitors with DVI to DVI in full HD 1920 X 1200.

    Hope it helps!

    Best Regards
    Freddie

I have never had matching dual monitors. I have had all sorts of combinations of them going back to very early Sonars.

I bought a new 23 inch to replace an old 21 inch CTR.  I had two 21 inch CTRs that worked well together.  I need another LED because of the contrast problem.  I don't think I have enough room for another 23 incher which would be optimum.  On my matched monitors I could stretch the track view all the way across and put any other screens over the left one while still having the full track view available.

Most flat screens have a native resolution which is best to run the screen at.  Use that, even if your monitors won't line up.
