Automation question and data question Reguarding stretching

Question 1) I am finding automation Really akward 1st off, when it comes to finding automation, so I select my automation parameter i want to use,
but how on earth am i suppose to find it again if i have a busy automation track/song, first off you would think by clicking or hovering over would at Least tell you what it is, and also i would have thought that once selected ther automation parameter menu would at least hi light all the selected parameters_I guess not, so then i have resorted to trying to bring up the automation from which ever track line i want to view, but i cant even find a quick acesses, without going back and sifting threw the automation list, and like i mentioned before How akward or even impossible this can be If you dont wish to use a controller Pre setup. PS: i Refer to third party plugins.

Any ideas Pinpointing/finding my automation would be a great help ?

Question 2) Is it possible to Grab a Midi Clip or audio Clip by its edge select a command and Drag /stretch this out, Time Stretch without all the Indepth hassle that i believe may  need to be done in X1 via Dialog boxes etc.
?

This is where the Problems lie with X1 a little thought in the Developement stages goes a long way (not to pull The developers down but sometimes It does  make me wonder how could the obvious solution etc be missed) I love and need the inline piano roll and stepsequencer X1 stands out here above all 9/10 _Dont ever change that. But i find many other Proscess just too long winded, i lay down some great drums tracks and end up giving up with X1 their after, i do try Reading the X1 pdf help, But always find myself looking for a needle in the haystack that more often than not is not their, hence my questions here.

Ctrl-Drag the clip edge. The edge will turn yellow, and there is yellow bar at the bottom of the clip showing that it's been stretched/compressed, and by what percentage. For reference, Cakewalk calls it Slip-stretching.

Be sure you do so at the right point. The Smart Tool has hot points that change what it does when its in different places. You may need to zoom the track.

Still No joy Zooming in etc, It only gives me scissors and then the drag arrow that just wont do anything,
This lacks on all my midi clips on all track lines, 32bit version and 64bit versions Running Windows 7 X64 just to rule that out.

Slip-Edit or Slip-Stretch? Slip-stretching only applies to Audio clips. Ctrl-dragging a MIDI clip edge will just create a copy of the clip like it always does. But does make the slip-edit handle turn yellow as it does when slip-stretching an audio clip, which is misleading. I'd call that a bug.

It's a common complaint that you can't readily distinguish on automation envelope from another in X1 without clicking on it, but you can Shift-click an envelope to activate it for editing, and a tool-tip identifying it will pop-up when you do that. You can Shift-click an empty area of the clip to return to clip-editing.

Better visibility of un-selected envelopes, and tool tips for them are top of my list of stuff that would make my life easier, yeah.

"...how do i find already wrtitten automation without going through the list in a long and tedious manor..."

There is a shortcut for this operation -- with the Smart Tool selected, SHIFT+Left Click (or CTRL+Left Click, cannot remember which), with the mouse pointer right on top of any portion of the automation envelope you want to work with. This will bring up that envelope, for detailed editing.

Sometimes vertically zooming the track is necessary, especially if there are several automation envelopes present (i've got my key bindings set up such that CTRL+SHIFT+Up Arrow or Dwn Arrow handles vertical zooms -- this may actually be the default key binding assignment).

There's a whack of other shortcuts and additional tips for handling automation envelopes in the Sonar X1 reference guide, pages 407, 465-467 and 945.
