Audio device not supported

Hello All,

I'm trying to use the "stereo Mix"  (sometimes called "what you hear" in some programs) with my realtek sound card.

I've tried all the different drivers.  I've tried outputting to the realtek speakers, I've tried outputting through my motu divice (which I usually use)

I get in some configurations I've been able to record but I get an error saying that the master bus is silent.  I am not able to select an output from the master that gives me any sound.

When I use the asio driver, the realtek disapears as an option and I only get the motu as a choice even if it's disabled in the control panel.

I'm on windows 7 sonar 8 studio with all updates.   I'm really at a loss here and am supposed to make a presentation later tonight!

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael

Why do you need to use the Stereo Mix? Why can't you just use the Motu device? If I were you I would disable the Realtek audio device in Sonar and use the Motu interface in either WDM/KS or ASIO driver mode.

Hi Chappel,  how would I do that.  I need to use stereo mix as I need to record sample songs from sheet music web sites and youtube to present possible song selections to the music committee of my choir.  The motu micro book as mic guitar and line in.  Do I plug the speaker cable into the line in?   That would certainly be easy one would think.

    Thanks,

Sonar is well known to hate on board sound cards. Use the Motu for Sonar.

If your trying to record a stream off the internet your probably in contravention of copy-write laws so be warned.

Use other software that gets along with your realtech. You should have a recording utility with Nero or even the sound card.
You can also take the outputs of the Motu and plug them into the inputs but disable any monitoring to avoid a feedback loop

Well, another option would be to disable the Motu in Sonar and use only the Realtek. You may have to use the Realtek in MME driver mode and in a 44 kHz/16 bit project.

We only use the songs to demonstrate them.  It's really just an easy way to play them the selections quickly instead of clicking all over the internet to find the right clips.  I think the problem is definately a sonar/on board card problem  I disable the card usually but needed the stereo mix for this job.  I'll try plugging in the outputs as you suggested.   Thanks.

Chuck, he's trying to record streamed audio, either a sound card and software that supports "what you hear" or routing out's to ins with an interface will work. Some interfaces have internal routing to accomplish this. But ya, Sonar stands alone in being picky. Michael, I used to bookmark tons of Utube's for my guitar students. I don't recommend this with your DAW, but I had a laptop set up with some decent speakers just for teaching. They always loaded and played right away. Just a matter of using bookmark folders.

I just did a recording from WMP into sonar using only the MOTU.

In the MOTU AUDIO CONSOLE, set up the RETURN ASSIGN to MIX 1.

in Sonar, for the input of your track, choose STEREO AUDIO MOTU ASIO RETURN 1

assuming you are in ASIO mode, which you should be so that you are NOT using the realtek inside sonar for anything.  that will cause all kinds of problems.

that setup will allow you to record the output of the soundcard (MOTU) to the input of any streaming player.
