Something to think about - X1 developers at Cakewalk - from a Microsoft blog...
I came across an interesting blog from a software engineer at Microsoft employee that gave a very candid account of working there:
http://timheuer.com/blog/archive/2011/08/24/working-at-microsoft-instrospection.aspx Although Cakewalk is a much smaller company (though Roland isn't), there are still a lot of areas that apply that the blogger mentions -- especially the desire to fix things you know are broken or improve things you feel need improving, but are limited by time and circumstance despite your best intentions.
Having been a software engineer myself for the better part of two decades, from tiny startups to large companies, I found the article a particularly interesting insight into Microsoft. I thought that maybe folk here might appreciate it in general and get a sense of life at Microsoft and possibly Roland/Cakewalk.
As a customer though I try to put some of this into perspective whilst remembering that I am a customer and have to speak up for my own needs and wants, despite my understanding and empathies with the software engineering, as well as friends that I might have here and there.
ps: maybe this post belongs elsewhere, but normally I don't go elsewhere so I'm sure the moderators will take care of that ;-)
