I assume by "gain" you mean what are the benefits of upgrading to X1 from 8.5.3?

X1 is a very different beast than 8.5.3.  some people have real problems with some of the functionality that changed from the 2 versions.  the toolbars are gone and replaced with the Control Bar, the Smart Tool Heads Up and other panels.

Pro Channel is an integrated channel strip which is very handy.  some people have problems with it, tho.  there are other plugin and synth additions as well.

the browser is actually pretty cool, I find it especially useful for FX and Synths.  it's a much better system than right clicking to add from an expanding menu.

X1 is a very different workflow than 8.5.3, but I have found that after you learn it that it is a good system.  I do miss having some of the one click icons on the front panel, such as save, import, export, etc.  but it is a very powerful system.

If you move to X1 and you have Sonar 8 and 8.5.3 installed - do not delete 8. Because if you do, you can't use 8.5.3 anymore. I did that :( X1C is never as stable as 8.5.3 was. So even with some improvements it doesn't make me confident to use it in a pro environment. Imagine having musicians and/or clients around and the whole thing crashes or suddenly plays back in a crazy tempo or sounding glitchy. Stay with 8.5.3 a little longer!!! At least until X1D is around. X1C is a buggy little mess.

    Kontakt 4 works fine in X1 on win7x64.  that's what I use.
