Exporting Video

As a test I managed to import a video of my vacation to Key West driving down US1. Then I imported Freewheel Burning to play over the video. The song is much longer than the video but this was just to see if I could export the file with the existing audio muted and the new song playing.

After reading manual and help I think it stated that some codecs wouldn't work or whatever I don't know. I also didn't see any fade in fade out functions. I was going to try and splice another video at the end of the first one since it was so short but it wouldn't let me do that either.

I exported the video as an .avi file.  I didn't mess with the setting or anything. I opened up the file and of course there is no video but the new song is playing.

Is this worth delving into? Or Should I just find a dedicated movie maker that has more editing options? Can I insert Text on the screen as the video plays? Are there popular free movie maker programs? Some of my scuba diving buddies post some really nice videos with audio similar to what I'm trying to do. I just thought since I have Sonar X1 it might be a good place to start. Thanks for any suggestions.

For what you want to do, a dedicated video editor is necessary. Sonar is used to compose music to video, handles one continuous video clip at a time, and has no video editing facilities

You need to create the complete video first before importing it into Sonar. Once there, all the audio editing is possible. The video can be imported with or without it's existing soundtrack also.

Windows Movie Maker is free and available from Microsoft's website. It's pretty basic, but can handle most of the things you mentioned

    Hope this helps

Oh I see. I found Videopad by NHC it seems to be easy enough to use. I messed with movie maker a bit but
didn't seem as user friendly as Videopad.

I guess when I start doing movie soundtracks I can whip out the Sonar and get to work. LOL

    Thanks Bud!
