[SOLVED]...and my X1C issues are...

Hi forum.

I did buy (and download) the upgrade to X1 (from 8.5) several weeks ago. Due to some extreme lack of productivity, i havent really cared to install it, until now, this very day. So; i completed the download package with the X1C patch and installed the whole thing.

And...

Nope, it aint working properly.

* I started with opening a simple project with just some audio tracks, i clicked around a bit to get familiar with the new interface. All ok.

* I tried to change the colors, in "the simple way i want it"; green tracks for audio, yellow for midi.  "Audio/midi track name background/text" for both track view and console view. It didnt work; track name background (track view) didnt change at all.

* I load a more complex project from the "8.5 days" (nothing extreme though, some 20 audio trax, 4 VSTi-s and a bunch of VST effects), and it opens fine, but when i close it, the program crashes. In a onebutton dialogue Bill Gates tell me: "SONARPDR.EXE has stopped workin and i will ¤!"#%#¤& down the program" (translated from my swedish version of windows but you get the point).

I close down, restart etcetc and same problem again. I open the project in 8.5 (which i still have installed and running on my computer) and it works all fine.

So; i un- and re-install the whole X1 thing, and it still crashes when i open (EDIT: No, not open, but Close (with or without saving)) this "randomly picked" project from 8.5.

***

Any ideas? Of course i can live with the color scheme bug(?) but i cant live with X1 crashing when i open a wellworking project.

***

Some details: My PC is fairly new, with Windows 7 home pro 64 bit. I installed X1 32-bit version, as my installation of 8.5 also is 32 bit.

Cheers
and, as always; excuse my swenglish :P

    Hi John

M-Audio FW Audiophile. It has been working fine with 8.5 (and older versions of Sonar, but that was on earlier computers).

I havent really touched the audio settings during the X1 installation, it kinda imported it from the older 8.5 installation (?).

    Edit: I run ASIO 44.1 kHz / 24 bit, buffer size 256 - 512 (depending on what i do)

I don't have much knowledge about M-Audio cards sorry. I do know that you might want to look at your Firewire chip set to be sure you have the TI one.

Hi again John, and thanx for replying. :)

I actually doubt that the audio interface is the problem. As it has worked properly through "my life with earlier Sonar versions", and still does with 8.5.

Yes i have TI chipset for FW.

    Cheers again

4 VSTi-s and a bunch of VST effects)

Any of them using Bitbridge? I know X1 shouldn't have any issues with plug-ins that 8.5 doesn't, but I'd start by selectively disabling them (Bitbridged plugs first) in a copy of the project (make the copy in Windows Explorer, since you can't save a copy), and see if you find a culprit there.

Hi brundlefly. Thanx for your time to reply.

    No, no Bitbridge in use.

Its a good idea to exclude the VSTs i guess. Even though i aint really comfortable with that either. It "shall" not be VST problems, as the plugs all work well with 8.5. But yea, i shall give it a shot.

I contacted support as well, awaiting their response.

Sorry for coming back late to this thread. For now it seems like the problem is solved:

It is one of my VSTi-s; CM EVE Dash Signature (it came as free software years ago with Computer Music Magazine), which is one of my fairly few favourite synths. It still works all properly with 8.5 (and earlier Sonar versions), but with X1... nope.

If any of you happen to have the same VSTi, it would be cool to hear if you can use it with X1?

Besides that, X1 is now up and running.

    cheers

    Vallhagen.

Free, sometimes does not come cheap.

FWIW, many a friend here have recommended free (solid) software and I have tried a few. Fortunately, I've never had problems with free stuff but it's threads like this that helped me make the decision (when I upgraded to W7/64bit) to no longer install free VST/VTSis.

    Vallhagen.

I know what u mean. The EVE synth wasnt / isnt really downloadable "freeware" though. You can buy it for some 30-50(?) USD today at wusik.com. For what i know it is a well renowned (excuse my swenglish?) synth. And, again, i have never had trouble with it before.

Sometimes (always?) the Computer Music Magazine includes something special for free on their DVD. Sometimes limited versions of something bigger, sometimes the "whole thing".

    And...

As speakin about "free does not come cheap"; the problem now seems all solved.

    ***

I simply contacted Willian at www.wusik.com about this issue, and just one hour (!) later he replied with a free (!) latest version of EVE, which is Wusik EVE V3 http://www.wusik.com/ww/products/wusikeve. That is what i call good service indeed :)   It should be said though, that we are lookin at a win-win-situation here; He asked me to try it out in X1 and send some feedback.

I installed this EVE V3, and the problem seem gone, solved. I feel pretty much happier now. EVE is one of my few fave VSTi-s, which i like to continue to work with:)

    Cheers:)

Hmm, i tend to over-use some smileys in this post, huh?
    :) :) :)
