New addition to the family
This is the latest addition to our family. My daughter named him "Storm" and thinks she is going to keep him. We will raise him and teach him where the bird feeder is located so he can get the sunflower seeds, and very likely he will meet a nice little girl squirrel and do what comes naturally. I found him on the ground Saturday night after the storm. He was totally soaked and cold, but still alive so I brought him inside. My daughter quickly took the hairdryer from me, and dried him out, warning him in the process. I did not expect him to live over night but he did. We will release him back to the "wild backyard" as soon as he is able to handle the outside world. He can expect to live a long and happy life as long as he doesn't try to get into my attic.... then... it will be squirrel stew time.

My daughter bought some puppy formula, and a feeding kit for small critters today after church. We know some folks who have raised a number of squirrels and called them that evening to get some advice.

Very cute (I'm a fan of most small furry animals), but regardless of how "grateful" he may seem at first, you'll want to be careful that he doesn't bite you later. The son of a contractor that did some work on my house saved a squirrel who later bit him once he had more strength and he had to go through some medical issues because of it. The little guys can carry some nasty diseases despite how cute they can look. That said, I'm sure I would have done the same thing!

I hear you loud & clear Craig. That's why the plans are to get it out of the house as soon as it is able to take care of itself. It is a wild animal, and as such, can not be domesticated like a cat or a dog can be.

In UK they're classed as non-native vermin and it is ill eagle to release them back into the wild once caught.

Is it true that squirrels are not native to England?

Red squirrels yes, grey squirrels no. The greys got imported/escaped in the 50's/60's and carry a virus that kills our native reds. Most of the reds are gone now, just a few isolated pockets of resistance that the greys haven't managed to penetrate yet.

I've heard that there are also green and orange ones that come from Ireland... But I could be mistaken...
