The Battle Of Automation Controls....

Hello,

I have a question about automation.   I drew in some NRPN parameter control into the step sequencer for a pattern of notes.   I notice that you can also do this in the Track View using the Automation control there... however, I was noticing that for the same NRPN control that is currently panning my notes left and right, it is a flat line in the track view!  I was expecting it to show me the curves I made in the step sequencer.   

I was wondering if there is a difference between the two.

And while I am at it....   is there a way to draw a straight line in step sequencer OR in track view?   Say if I want the velocity of notes to drop but very evenly?
