Low input volume from ZED 14 to Sonar LE

Hi all,

New here so hope I haven't repeated a question.

We have just bought an A&H ZED 14 mixer that comes with a copy of Sonar LE. We have got the USB send and return working OK however the recording level onto the laptop from the desk is very low

We have all of the output controls on the desk cranked as high as we can but the the audio recorded barely registers a bump on the track even though it is there.

We are using the USB codec and MME to record. We have also tried ASIO drivers which seemed to get a better result but still not really good enough.

When using hte USB interface, there is no way on the laptop to increase the input volume.

We are running Vista 32 with 4Gb RAM

It just seems like we are missing one small step in here somewhere.

Would appreciated any help on this one.

Thanks.

Billy

    Welcome to the forum.
What are you using for input? Condenser or dynamic microphones or line-level devices? Plugging your guitars directly into the mixer?
It looks like this uses the Windows mixer to set levels, according to the manual. Open the Windows mixer and make sure the input and output levels are up and unmuted.

    Hi Greg,

Thanks for your reply. We have a vocals and guitar via XLR and Piano via Phono. The desk just dumps the mix out to the PC as a final mix rather than by channel so just get 1 "premixed" signal coming into Sonar

Have checked the levels on the Windows devices and there is no option to adjust the input level when using the USB codec. Checked all other levels also.

So, in the Windows mixer, you don't get the options as shown on page 21 of the Zed's manual?
