Drum Map to Audio for A Dummy Like Me

Hi All, I am new to the forum. I have learned how to use the basics of Sonar X1 producer pretty well over the last few months and really love creating music on it. I know how to add a midi track, and using my usb midi keyboard, record an instrument, then add a softsynth like CoyoteWT, so that when I export the song the midi is converted to audio. Now I am trying to learn about drum maps. I create a new midi track, then I assign the output of that track to a drum map, like "D4 Articulation Map". That's where I get stuck. I can't "connect" the midi track by connecting its output to a softsynth like "CoyoteWT". I have been looking far and near to find a kindergarden level explanation on what needs to be done, but I am stumped. I would so appreciate any advise on how to do this. I see I posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry. I am reposting in the other forum.
