Update on EZ Drummer LITE problems...

See newest post <bottom of thread>

I decided to try and download and install Toontracks EZ drumer lite since it was free. I spent a couple of hours fiddling with this program. I registered, downloaded, and tried and tried to install. It would show up in my download folder. I tried unzipping, installing, deleting, re-everything... I never could get X1 to see it. I finally just deleted the whole thing. Forget it, I don't need it.

I reinstalled Sampletank 2 free and the free sounds and it wasn't nearly as hard to get sounds out of it... f course I wasn't seriously trying. I didn't bother to hook up to my Octa-Capture but just messed around with lesser drivers and my lappy soundcard, not recording anything, just trying to get the feel of it... at least it makes sounds and I am able to find the free samples. That Toontrack stuff really ticked me off. I get errors everytime I tried to install the 64bit application, it would tell me that things were missing etc... pffft.

There is always tomorrow and I will hook up the OC and a midi keyboard. I know that will make things much nicer.

I didn't know they were giving away the EZD Lite - is that directly on their website?

my guess is that you have to patch it for W7x64.  originally EZD and EZD Lite were not x64 compatible and they put out a patch for 64bit.

I don't know where I got it. I assume it came in the X1 box. I found the paper in a stack of stuff. It says: Access your EZdrummer LITE as a download deivery by going to WWW.toontrack.com
Register a user account with Toontrack
Submit the EZD LITE SN on this coupon in the "register your new product section" of your account
Download EZD LITE from the "my products" of your user account.

Then there are instructions on how to Download and authorize.

Everytime I tried to install it I would get errors about things not being in the folder on my computer where it was looking... I just used the default when installng. I don't know why it could not find parts of itself... in any case I cold never get it to work or get X1 to find it.

There is of course an upgrade path...

You might send them an email and ask for the wload if you want it. If you do it and figure it out let me know how to do it.

Thanks,

Julien

Julien,
Did you download/install the patch for 64bit (as Beagle stated)?

(Without this patch, is probably what's causing those errors you're getting.)

I don't know. I will have to try again and check, I really don't remember. If it offered a 64bit option I would have chosen it but I don't remember. I am a little concerned about Amplitude 3 too. I installed it. It shows up in X1 and standalone but I see nothing about 64bit and the .dll installed in (x86). I'll get it figured out soon though.

Beagle, I was so tired and frustrated yesterday your tip went right over my head. I read it and it didn't even register. Thanks to MEsh for pointing me back to it. I re-read it and now I understand and will try again soon.

I am trying to figure out right now if Amplitude 3 is 32 or 64 bit. I never saw an option to install either/or and I cannot find anywhere that it says anything other than it is ver 3.6

I'll ask IK how I can tell. It has a lot of cool content though and comes up as a standalone and as a VST in X1. After giving it a good look I think I will get the SVX and Fender as my freebies That should do me until they get the 333 amp emulations going, laff.
Hey, thanks for the advice. I owe you some becan...

Re:Frustrating day.... I should leave well enough alone 2011/09/02 17:39:46 (permalink)
OK, I tried again. I made sure to get the latest download. It is a zip file. I clicked it and got some documentation files and some others. I have two install options. I chose the Windows7 64bit installation. Everything went well untill I encountered this, which I cannot copy/paste... ugh...

(I am substituting "computername" for the actual name of my computer)

Error1311.Source file not found:
C:\users\computername\Appdata\Local\Temp\Temp1_TT106L_EZDrummer_Lite_WIN.zip\TT106L_EZdrummer_Lite_WIN\install\plug.cab. Verfythat the file exists and that you can access it.

If it does the same as the last time I will encounter a similar message if I choose to skip and continue, which I wont because I now know it will do no good.

I will try right clicking and "run as administrator" this administrator thing in W7 64bit needs some way so that you can set your computer to know that you are the admin and just take care of it when needed. It may not be the problem, I will see.

Thanks for any help...

Julien - do you have win7's UAC still on?  I hate UAC, it's a pain in the ark - they made it to "monkey proof" the OS from the monkeys who don't know what they're installing or downloading.  I turned it off as soon as I installed Win7 and that takes most of those "admin" problems away which might be what's causing your headaches.

if you feel comfortable running your system without UAC, then just google "turn off UAC win7" and find the instructions on how to turn it off.

Allright, I disabled that. I decided to try and unzip this file again and I encounter this error:

Error 0x80010135: path too long
15._right_crash_-_crash
Type MIDI sequence
date... blah blah
size 618 bytes

It doesn't say blah blah, just gives the date created or modified.

I have deleted and re-downloaded three times at least. Unzipped and replaced and tried to install several times both 64bit and regular. The SOLO installed on the desktop but immediately told me it could not find a drummer. So I deleted it. I think I am going to just delete the whole thing.

again.. and forget it.

OK. I've done all I can. It is installedin the correct folder, programs files/vstplugins I can open and play some drum hits but I went to preferences and rescanned all my folders in X1 and cannot find it. I can take the browser back to C:\Program files\Vstplugins and can find it that way, but cannot drag/dropit in anywhere. It does not show up in the browser any other way. I am sure that this is a combination of a corrupt file and user erorrorreer... I sent an emal to TT support. I wil wait to see if they can help before I delete it and forget it... heck, I don't need it. I have Session Drummer and I have more Acid loops than Sony does... I just cannot stand it that I can't make it work... and I am still not sure why Pentagon 1 won't work. Is there something I shuld be doing to make P1 work or should I just deete it. I am not even sure if I have ever used it. pffffft
I should be playing with Amplitude 3 instead of obsessing on some drum lite program I probably dont even need.
Sorry..

just as an fyi... I use superior drummer, and it is incredible.  IF you can get things going, their full bore programs are really something.  GOOD LUCK if you give it anymore tries.  It truely is a great program.

I don't know why it's not working for you.  do you have the 32 bit sonar installed on your system?  you could try installing sonar 32, scan for it and see if it works there.  maybe the lite version is only 32bit?

as far as pentagon, I'm not sure why that's not working.  it works fine here.

I don't know why it's not working for you. do you have the 32 bit sonar installed on your system?

I asked TT for help and they told me what to do and it works fine now. I don't know exactly why it did nt work before but per their instructions I right clicked on thezip file, chose extract all, extracted to desktop, then I installed EZD lite 63bit; EZD solo 64bit; and the cocktail kit. I got no errors and the solo player works fine. They said it would not extract correctly unless I used the W7 extractor which is default by right clicking...I didn't know I had any other unzip program but whatever... it worked. Now, if I can work all will be well. EXDrummer is interesting.
I have not played around much with SD3. How is EZDrummer or Superior Drummer different from SD3? Will any of the three allow me to use ACID loops or hits? I have lots of them and some are good. I also have several Groove Monkee sets I want to be able to use.

Hry, thanks for the help... in a nutshell, right click on the zip>extract all... solved the problem.

glad you got it working.

EZD is superior to SD3 because of routing and flexibility of mic settings.  you can have up to 8 (I think) outputs in EZD and you can choose which outputs go to where, you can mix in different amounts of ambient/overhead, etc.

Have you got a fix for ST2's small gui? (hopefully when ST3 comes out, it will address that.......but, who knows when that will be?)

I have used “Long Path Tool” in this situation and it helped me easily and quickly. This tool can fix all the error messages like:
1. Path too long
2. Cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk
3. Cannot delete file: Access is denied
4. There has been a sharing violation.
5. The source or destination file may be in use.
6. The file is in use by another program or user.
7. The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.
and all other related error messages.
I hope you will find this solution helpful and don’t forget to leave your comments.

Long path tool is not for me.....I have short term memory, this thread is 6 years old, and you can't SPAM fix it if it's already fixed.........or will ewe still try before the Report Abuse button is pressed?
