photos from last Sundays drive in the woods

I'm hoping to spend a few years and end up with enough 600x600 shots to have a different one for each day of the year in a rotating display.

Here's the latest:

Water Moccasin

Sandbog Deathcamas a.k.a. Snakeroot

Those pictures are amazingly clear Mike!

Mind if I ask what equipment you use? Did you edit them or are they just cropped and resized?

What's funny is that it almost makes more sense to swap the titles of those pics...

    Nice shots Mike!

Hey Mike,   if you take one each day and start rotating them now, then it'll only take one year to collect them all, and you get the rotating display right away

    :-)

Some of the flowers I photograph are flowers that I visit every year and sometimes I don't get a satisfying shot and I wait another year to go out and see if I can do better.

The wildlife is of course wild... so you take what you can get.

I got a pretty good shot of a pymgy Rattlesnake last Sunday too... but the light was gone... and everything looks flat so I just archived it as a helpful for identifying type picture. That little guy was only 9" long... and he got angry and attacked me. I was laughing at the situation... but I also scooted backwards real fast.

The idea is to highlight all the local fauna and flora and my wife wrote me a web server application that automatically rotates the images by date. The goal is to make it free standing so that any local environmental or education website can use it as a display. It's part of my big picture volunteer work I like to do.

Hi Bub, I have one of those fancy DSLR cameras with the pro grade lenses. It's a Canon 5d MkII. I like using it because I can hang the really nice lenses on it. I grew up in photography and started with full manual basic gear. It's a little embarassing to walk around with fancy camera gear... but I use the heck out of it and it takes pictures that I like. I figure that since my vision gets worse each year that I should use good optics and enjoy what I can while I can.

Thanks for taking a look everyone.

    best regards,
    mike

Very true ... I got this shot on Mount Evans Road in Colorado. IIRC it's the highest paved road in the U.S.. It's one of my favorite pictures I've taken.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ28. It's a few years old and not comparable to yours, but I am impressed with the pictures it takes when the lighting is good. Especially close-ups. And it takes HD video too which I use it for more than stills. My wife competes in Dressage competitions a lot and I use it to shoot all her shows.

That's a great shot. The rim light on the velvet is *deluxe* and the texture on the snow pack is really distinctive.

    best,

That snakeroot is a beauty!  I planted some wildflowers last November in a small section of our property I'm trying to develop into wildflower meadow.  It's right by the road, so I'm hoping others will enjoy it too.  I can't believe how fun it's been this summer to walk thru that several times a week and see what's blooming now, and collect more seeds to keep it spreading.  I should take one of the photographers in my family to get some good pictures...problem is, I usually do that when I need to get away.  Anyway, great photos as always.  Thanks for sharing them.
