Confused with MIDI Learn
Hi There... Another newbie question. As always I appreciate any help! 1) Lay down a MIDI Track 2) Add Dimension Pro effect, add stereo delay preset. 3) Right click FEEDB click MIDI learn, pan up and down. A) Question - How do we stop learning mode? Only way seemed to do it to press play on the transport? (only then does the right click menu change to include MIDI forget). 4) Close Dimension Pro. Bring up piano roll. Add a lane (which default to velocity). 5) Select Edit/New value type... This is where I'm stuck! B) Question - How do I know which controller value to add (which I created in MIDI learn/step 3) i.e. Dimension Pro/FeedB ? Does anybody know the answers to Q's A + B? Thanks! Alex

☄ Helpful
When you put a synth control into MIDI-learn mode, it waits for some MIDI CC data to arrive and assumes that's the controller number you want to use. At that point the learning part is done. I've never given much thought to when or how it exits learn mode. I've just assumed that once it's "learned", it makes no difference whether or how long it remains in learn mode afterward. As for which CC number to choose, it can really be (almost) any of them. Only a handful are off-limits, such as the patch-change CC32. A few others are for specific purposes, e.g. CC7 for volume and CC64 for the sustain pedal. Some synths have others that are spoken for, but DP pretty much lets you use any of the other CCs for anything you like. I usually use CC numbers from 102 through 115 first, as I have never seen them assigned to anything specific on any synthesizer hard or soft.

Thanks Bitflipper! > Add Dimension Pro effect, add stereo delay preset. Right click FEEDB click MIDI learn, pan up and down. So I'm still not sure how I assign a specific CC number for the FeedB pot on that softsynth.... Or how to find out what CC number has been allocated? Thanks!

Here's one way to do it: In the MIDI track that's going to feed that synth, hand-plant a single CC event at the start via either the PRV or the Event View. The latter is a little quicker. Put the synth knob you want to automate into Learn mode and hit the spacebar.

OK so: a) I bring up dimension Pro b) I bring up the event list c) I add an event d) I double clicked on an event (which defaulted to "note") and change this event to "controller". This gave aa default data value of 74, and 54 was the value in the column after that (not sure what this value is as there is no column heading??) e) I right clicked the pot under the Dimension Pro and hit learn MIDI. f) At this stage I moved the pot up and down (also tried it without moving the pot in case this mattered). g) I hit spacebar h) I stopped the transport and rewound I notice: No change in the MIDI event. No extra MIDI event added. So I guess I'm close but no cigar :) Thanks!

Still not getting anywhere I'm afraid. Can anybody fill in any missing steps in my previous post? Looking on the net for video tutorials on MIDI learn- not much joy... Cheers!

Well undocking the browser and assigning controls to a softsynth works around it for now. Guess I have more reading to do and hope I get it later :). Thanks - I really do appreciate the help.
