Stuff by Danny Elfman (of Oingo Boingo fame) is usually top notch.  He does a lot of soundtracks for so-called "B" movies (like Beatlejuice).

If Betlejuice is a B-movie, then I will have to submit this into the discussion

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9rohYh_-FM

It's absolutely my favorite movie of all time and the intro still gives me goose bumps. It's written by Jeff and Mychael Danna, who have become some of my favorite composers, with or without a movie to go with it;)

The actual song can be heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3lzRkr5qv4

Would you really classify Beetlejuice as B? Judging from the cast alone, they must have had a decent budget.
    Agreed about Elfman though.

Most of the stuff which really inspires me comes from old 30's to 60's B movies. Universal monster movies, the classic Roger Corman movies w/ Vincent Price. Speaking of which... The music for Dr. Phibes would probably rank high on my list - not good, just so disturbing. Music for italian movies such as Black Sunday and Black Sabbath. Great stuff...

Harry Manfredini's soundtrack for Friday the 13th. Of course, it owes a lot to Psycho, but then, Psycho couldn't really be considered B.

Would the Omen work? That's an all-time classic by Goldsmith.

I own a copy of the Forbidden Zone. When I lend it to people, they are happy to return it. It is a very odd movie. Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3Uh-AFFDys

    Hi,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zachariah_(film)

And then the opening of Werner Herzog's "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" with Popol Vuh's piece on it.

Journey of Hope (won the Oscar for Foreign Film that year). Opening music by Jan Garbarek from Eventyr. Song was "Soria Maria" ... and later on there was some Terje Rypdal/David Darling music from EOS as well.

And for my worst B-movie of all time? ... Clockwork Orange!

A fair point.  I'll clarify this a little, it was meant to be a B movie!  The cast all thought is was great fun (same thing happened with Mars Attacks).

We're definitely fans of both Burton and Elfman here. I have yet to hear/see it, but Elfman wrote the music for one of the current Cirque du Soleil show (Iris). I'd be very curious to see that one. But they're in L.A.
