Why frustration?

I'm a long time CW user (from Cakewalk 6) I think that CW Daw it's the best for PC world. I disagree with the frustration, even if I see that something is working bad in this new X1 platform (also 8.xx was not a champ for me). I'm a little producer for theater and christian music and I'm producing today with any delay in my job schedule. X1 goes on very well with few, but annoying, incidents. Now, all this sincerely said, my opinion is that something has changed from the beginning of the join-venture with Roland. Business taked more place from then and every year we pay for a new major release (!!!) I think that engineers are running too fast and the problems that we find are sons of this race. But I like what they are doing, or trying to do. Only I think that if they work to consolidate rather than innovate, this would increase the power of Sonar on the market. When we started Cakewalk was the easyest, the more stable and the more simple to understand Sequencer on the road. Many of us loved these features. Give them us back, if you can. It would be also better for CW company... maybe not for Roland!!!

    piangio,

I hear what you are saying and agree, but to be fair I'm wondering if you and I don't experience the same issues as others because we use (just assuming) Sonar in a more straight thru recording fashion that others.  It looks to me like much of the latest challenges (beyond color scheme changes and a lack of strong notation) people face are around a solid looping environment which requires exceptional low latency performance.

I tend to record using pretty straight forward techniques of audio recording with some synths (mainly midi drum patterns and a bit of keys) and that has worked out just as well as it did in 8.x and earlier for me.  I'll later add quite a few plug-ins, automation, and such for the mixes but that has worked well for me.

I personally think that all this frustration is beneficial in the long-run as it shows Roland and Cakewalk that the "bar is set higher" now.  Anytime they tread into new territories that other DAW do well in, they have to realize that they need to hit the target on the first try (not the third or fourth) as that just leaves potential new clients with a bad taste in their mouths.  Not to mention existing customers...

I've said before that I wish Roland/Cakewalk would honestly take this community's word when some have asked to beta test the software before an official release of their product.  I'd be willing to run it through a few copies of my projects just to see if I can find any issues before the final release.  Maybe someday they will take us up on our offer.

    Tom

Well, roland is known for solid stable drivers and good hardware, so if problems will continue with sonar bugs
roland can dump cakewalk as he dumped cubase some time ago...

Well, there's no reason to read beyond that sentence now is there?

I am glad you are happy. It is a great product with a lot of room for improvement.

Hi Bub. I've just delivered to the CD printing factory my last job, closed on Sonar x1c. No problem then... This is actually what is most important for musicians. I agree with Tom. To kc I say that I had many roland gears (until now only fantom XR left) and I found, in almost all of them, any weak parts (most of all potentiometer, slider and dial). Very good instruments, in certain cases, but often with this "annoying" bugs. My opinion is that to "win" on the market sometimes hurry takes the place of quality tests.
