Excellent piece. Sounds pretty convincing. Though I must point out two things that "break the spell" for me: 1. there are way too many highs. Roll off the top end considreably. You would never hear that kind of upper end response on a real orchestra 2. The vibrato on the violin just goes on and on and on...there has to be a way to tame that down, as the real long notes sound fake with such perfect vibrato. What are you using for this?

Hi James, thanks for listening, I used Dimension LE that was included in X-1 for the main "violin" part and the pizzicato strings. Expressive strings from CW Soundcenter and a musicbox from tts. Probably shouldn't have used an exciter on the strings . I'm pretty new to this midi stuff, maybe I should find out what those CC's do. Rik

Hi Rik - Lovely piece. Not sure why, but as soon as I heard the first notes, I 'saw' a ballerina dancing onto the stage. Alone and exhausted, she was lost in a dark, misty landscape. So, all we now need is the music for all the other Acts. No pressure! Handsome Prince on quest. A few passing Swans. She is a Princess but cannot reveal it because of evil spell that will turn her into a frog! Falls in love, tells Prince, becomes frog and is eaten by Swan. Easy! I hate happy endings! Over to you Maestro! Malcolm

Rik, Very high caliber piece musically. I agree with James, the vibrato violin is a little distracting due to the highs and the too consistent volume and vibrato levels. Beautiful piece, would sound spectacular with VSL. Regards

Rik, this is quite lovely, in the Philip Glass tradition. I am a little mystified how this evolved from an arpeggio exercise on guitar! It might be interesting to do a version of this tune with the guitar part overlaid. Honestly, I didn't notice the 'perfect vibrato' until after it was pointed out here -- I think musicians might notice, most of the listening public probably wouldn't. Hard not to notice once it is pointed out, however. In any case, very nice stuff.

You are quite prolific in your studio, don't you? This is quite beautiful! Too bad about the RSI, though. :( That's one of the touch parts of this addiction. :( I love this though. And I'll help you with that CC work...what little I know, I'll be glad to pass on to you too. Now if only I could find where I posted it last. :)

Hi cwestmont, thanks for listening. I was playing double arpeggio's on the guitar and came up with a nice progression of 15 chords. Played that about five times faster than this though. I used that progression that I was playing on guitar, slowed it way, way, down and used that as the basis for this piece. Added a violin on top, et voilà. Hi Ben, thanks for listening, good luck with that PHD. Rik

Well arranged and quite calming. I really liked the the changes of key, the best one at the start where you. have a major chord for the first couple of bars and then immediately go minor when the violin plays. Cheers, Terry.

Hi All , Remixed it with added string sounds by Janet and tried to make the solo string part more expressive by using cc7 and cc11. New mix is on Soundclick, old mix is on Soundcloud. Rik

superb overture or whatever. reminded me of the Adagio for Strings, in terms of pace and rhythm mainly. i love the almost whole-tone lead at the start, with its major-minor cadence...a key change thing you do in the piece...only its too f'ing short, what were you thinking! actually the first 30secs is my fave thing, i thought you were gonna go all in for something a bit more challenging...dang! sounds are great for dim le! i think most of those cheap/free samples have a natural pace and range in which they sound great, outside of which they are pants...whereas the expensive VSTis can do both...
