Hey Juan, Check your order details and make sure that they send you the installation CD (OEM) for your operating system (there may be an extra charge). Then you'll have the option to reinstall the OS only, zapping out any proprietary Dell utilities and bloatware. A bit of a pain, but a very good idea. I don't use Dell products, but many family members (close and extended) do and you guest it, I'm the one they seek for this type of thing.

There is one other option you may want to be aware of. Go here: www.pcdecrapifier.com/download for a freeware program that will scan your computer and give you the option of removing any of that preinstalled junk. Works like a charm. Just run it on your existing install, then defrag and you should be good to go. This program is particularly helpful now that most laptops do not include disks for their operating systems, or charge you when your request one.

Juan Sanchez ...is it possible to uninstall all their junk, or is it better to just buy a win7 disk and start new??? If you don't care about the warranty, you could wipe and reformat the harddrive and install the o/s from scratch. All the necessary hardware drivers for each Dell model are available to download from the Dell website. I did this successfully with a Dell Studio laptop, but mine was not a new one though and the previous owner had installed Linux.

I know this is a bit late but. . . .when I ordered a pc from Dell last year, I told them I wanted no bloatware and they were happy to comply.

zapping out any proprietary Dell utilities and bloatware It's a Dell. They do not want you to do anything with the machine that they did not intend you to do, because they want to be able to provide support for the machine they ship, not the machine you want. In the end, the advice you will probably get from Dell if something goes wrong is to restore your system their way. A particular problem with Dell mods in the past has been the way they handle a hidden restore partition. Not sure if this machine has one or more of those, but something to consider. Another issue is that much of what you saved by buying a Dell in the first place will be lost if you have to buy a new retail OS license.

Be careful if you blow off the original OS.... Dells are funny that way. I upgraded a Dell OS and it has boot up issues. I must do a workaround to get it booted. Something to do with the video driver. I have to hit F8... choose VGA, boot up, and then I can switch resolution and it works just fine, but if I boot up and forget that, I get a black screen. Even Dell tech support told me I should not have updated the factory OS and there was no fix to make it work right. Also the factory OS disk WILL reinstall all the bloatware. I've had a few Dell crashes where I used the OEM disk and it all comes back. Having said that... I ran Music Creator on a factory Dell laptop for a number of years without difficulty. I'd simply install the Cakewalk software, add a nice USB interface, and let that be the DAW until you build a desktop from scratch. It'll do just fine for you.
