Another new metal song...

Another new Memorare song, this is still black metal but has more death and doom moments in it...not quite sure if the clean vocals work, i wanted an old vinyl record type feel to them, but i dunno...anyhow as ever all comments are appreciated.

Click on my sigs...it's called Dies Irae and uses words from the Latin Requiem mass...

I'm at work, so I can't turn it right up (or even slightly up), but wow. Another metal masterpiece.

Hi Mark,  well this certainly sounds like the day of wrath. Not quite sure what to make of the section between 1:13 and 1:35, lots of distortion . The clean singing works for me ,especially at the end. The death metal parts are tight and the opening really sets the mood, but from 3:00 to the end it gets better and better, the end is very good, nice gothic atmosphere. Maybe an Idea to use some of the ending as an intro ?

Death metal is not my specialty, nor do I ever get meth'd-out or raged-out enough to appreciate the art.  So please dismiss any opinion of mine if it doesn't support your art:

TBH, I can't wrap my head around this on 1st listen ... and the demon tongue speaking seems a notable distraction to the excellent music and performances on drums and guitars (which I love).

To add insult, the demon-vox is ultra-compressed and absurdly eclipses those wonderfully symphonic drums and guitars ... forcing me to slam down the volume.

A couple weeks ago, I asked Caleb (20 yo) what he thought of metal operatics ... he replied that there might could be either some obvious lyrical motif-title for the tongue-speaking ... or else the lyrics themselves (translated) ... next to the song.

    .....

Though there is new stuff here, the demon-paradigm seems far less convincing to my croniness here than your former pieces (like "Remember").

Or, like Picasso's stylized-cubism, I'm losing empathy with this style.

OTOH, your finale redeems/compliments the demon-antics a bit; a new, somewhat vibrant tongue, has emerged after those utterances.

Requiem Eternal... Death is such an uplifting topic? I really enjoyed your departure from your black metal roots? Perhaps you could consider another journey from that which you love? You can really be enjoyable in the right light? You're a talented musician, just a lost soul when it comes to music :-(

I too enjoyed your pieces away from Black/Death Metal, especially the series of religious pieces you did a while back.  So, while I don't 'get' the genre it doesn't mean I can't appreciate your extraordinary compostional and musical talents, and this piece was no exception.  The clean vocals worked for me.

Well, I'm not sure I've heard you growl quite like this before. To me, I hear a great confident melody with the growl. That's a growl I can enjoy so great job on the vox on this one. A very melodic tune. I like it a lot.

Not a big Black/Death Metal fan, although I like Illdisposed a lot because they do, do different things with the vocals.  I thought your song was really good, but to me, the vocals seemed a little "dry" and too upfront and seem to smother the guitar a bit.  Otherwise sounded great man.  Look forward to hearing more of your stuff.
