On the Dell forum we recommend Crucial Memory as it is guaranteed to work in Dell's and has lifetime warranty (most major brands have this). We don't recommend the Kingston "Value Ram" line of memory as it has shown to be problematic. There is no "music" memory or "audio" memory. There are certain electronic specs for memory that could be an issue. There are many marketing names for memory and some have heat sinks, etc. The first thing is to determine what is required for your PC and work from that. Crucial has a configuration procedure that will list what is applicable to your specific PC or motherboard. www.crucial.com

FWIW: I have personally done well with Crucial Memory and Kingston - in both home and work computers.

I haven't seen anything saying one is better than another of equal specs. As long as the guarantee is the same I get the cheapest. Had problems with early OCZ PC3 12800 but they replaced it no questions asked.

Neither have I. On the opposite, I have noticed some threads about "quality memory" failing and "bulk memory" coming to rescue. I've never had problems with Kingston. I've never heard of a brand "Crucial", and I just checked the site of Finlands biggest net shop, and they don't even sell such a brand. I did find a thread with a question:" Anybody heard of a brand called Crucial? Is it risky to buy such cheap RAM?" There are dozens of brands that are just invented by local distributors for products that just come out of the "bulk" production line. Just like there only was two or three (?) factories that made all the crucial parts of VHS-recorders, and all the manufacturers used those same parts. The AD's had to make people believe there was a difference. If a memory brand is advertised as "great for audio" or similar, it's just ridicilous AFAIK. Data is just 1s and 0s, there are no "audio 1s" or "video 0s".

I've certainly heard of it and it's been around for a few years. I have never tried it though, although I believe that I have read some good recommendations in the past. Their website offers a useful tool where you can select a motherboard model and it will list all of their compatible RAM products.

When the audio has passed your AD converter it is nothing but ones and zeros, nothing. And the quality of your RAM does not influence your converters.
DAW work is memory intensive and requires good a good product, just like video editing etc, like you mentioned, but still, of two memory brands of the same specs, is there really some measurable proof of the superiority of performance of one brand over the other?
Of course it's possible, (and likely) that the quality control of one brand is better, so you don't get "monday examples" so often, but that's another story. It's got nothing to do with the performance. Broken is broken.
I'm not denying one brand can be a better buy than the other, but I do believe that RAMs with similar specs are similar in practice. In 25 years I've not bumped into faulty RAM yet (crosses his fingers), so I do admit I haven't concentrated on the inner life of RAM that deeply.

I've had good results with both Crucial & Kingston, though I can't remember what it is I added to my DAW

It is very important to check out which RAM is certified for your motherboard. You can almost always find this information on the motherboard manufacturer's website. Some kinds of memory work in one system while for whatever reason it might not work in another. FWIW, I've had good success in my personal systems with Corsair and Mushkin. SP
