Camel Audio Alchemy Stuck Notes

Hey all,

I'm still having this issue where notes get stuck and continue to play. This only happens in X1 for me, every Reaper, Orion, Cubase & Live work properly and notes / sound stop when I press the stop button.

I spent a fair bit o coin on Alchemy & Expansions and would really love to get it working properly.

Anyone having the same issue? I remember a thread a while back... anyone still having the issue in X1c?

Cheers

I have had issues with Alchemy. Since Sonar is the only DAW I use (not counting FL Studio, I use Rewire or VST within) cannot compare my box to others.
Anyway, I have found some presets become silent as well. The way out is to launch the VST and select the next preset then re-select the intended one.
I have found the best workaround is to Freeze the track.

Déjà vu all over again. I thought this was pretty much determined to be a problem with Camel Alchemy in your previous thread:

Total Deja Vu - I remember that recent thread also.  --It's just that it's a drag when we buy something which turns out to not be compatible with Sonar, for whatever reason.  So we get desperate for help on the issue.

I'll admit ignorance and say I have no idea what you're talking about.  Linux--- wasn't he the kid in "Peanuts" with the blanket?--

    Hey,

I really don't think its a Camel Audio issue, it works everywhere else.

Can you just record in Reaper and then drag the MIDI over to SONAR X1?

That might be a good work around.

I really don't think its a Camel Audio issue, it works everywhere else.

And SONAR works fine with the vast majority of other synths. So it's an interoperability problem unique to the combination of Alchemy and SONAR, But Camel has already acknowledged one problem in this area:

    http://www.camelaudio.com/faqs/Alchemy/Alchemy_Release_Notes

    Bug Fixes

Hanging notes for presets using single voice mode in Sonar 8

So I think that puts the onus on them to take another look, and figure out what they're doing differently from the hundreds of other synths that work fine in SONAR. Apparently, whatever they did for compatibility with SONAR 8 did not address the whole problem.

That said, I maintain that Cakewalk need to revisit the way SONAR handles buffering of MIDI driven soft synths, which has proven problematic in other ways, and may be related to this issue.

Key question: Do you ever get stuck notes when playing Alchemy in real time?

Never in real time, only on playback.

So, even if the MIDi is sourced from elsewhere play back may get stuck?

Never in real time, only on playback.

That's what I suspected, and points to there being a conflict with the way SONAR buffers soft synth audio for playback of existing MIDI tracks, and possibly also with SONAR's use of All Notes OFF rather than individual Note Offs when stopping playback. If a synth does not handle All Notes Off properly, that's not SONAR's problem; it's a standard part of the MIDI spec.

The only time I had a problem with sounds not working correctly in Alchemy I checked (or unchecked) a box in the project options - midi out- other options - in 8.5.3 - and it worked fine from then on.
